Marketing Director, Place

Overview:

Responsible for driving the global marketing strategy for the firm's Place sector (mainly Senior Living and Commercial/Mixed-Use), acting as the central connection between sector and practice strategy, business development priorities, and the broader marketing team. The role translates the sector's vision into a distinctive market presence and brand positioning further elevating HKS's leadership in civic, cultural, education, and community-centered environments.

Empowers regional markets to adopt and localize strategies while maintaining clear global standards. Partners with business development and VP of Marketing Strategy to co-design ABM programs and incorporate intelligence from regions and offices to continuously evolve global practice strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Owns and leads the global marketing strategy for the Place sector and practices.

  • Defines and evolves the practice's value propositions, differentiators, and positioning, in partnership with Centers of Excellence (COEs)

  • Authors and maintains the practice's global marketing plan and campaign roadmap

  • Partners with regional markets to align practice strategies with regional priorities and office-level growth plans, enabling localized execution while maintaining clear global standards and non-negotiables

  • Provides actionable campaign briefs to COEs to guide campaign delivery across regions, ensuring initiatives are aligned with practice priorities and drive measurable ROI while maintaining strategic oversight of team capacity, campaign pipeline, and budget allocation

  • Partners with the Brand COE to develop and activate a distinctive brand strategy for the practice that elevates its expertise, design excellence, innovation, and impact in the marketplace

  • Leads integrated campaigns, content, events, and recognition strategies that showcase the practice's work, insights, and people-strengthening visibility, influence, and market position through channels such as awards, PR, digital platforms, and speaking engagements

  • Reports regularly to Global Practice Director and VP of Marketing Startegy on performance and contribution to global growth

  • Partners with other Practice Marketing Directors to share best practices across practices

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related degree
  • Typically with 15+ years of experience in strategic global marketing
  • Experience in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator graphic software
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred
  • Prior experience in architecture/interior design preferred
  • Proven ability to work across and influence stakeholder groups, functional areas, geographies, and differing levels of seniority
  • Successful track record with managing a team and performing duties in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in logistics management including connecting people and resources to the right place at the right time
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to measure contribution to growth
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to excellence
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff and customers; ability to forge trusting relationships within a diverse team
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to define clear global standards and enable regional/local execution
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, markets, and technologies while maintaining strategic focus
  • Ability to confidently communicate with a wide variety of internal and external constituents
  • Ability to proactively problem solve and apply innovative solutions
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment, and ability to work independently and prioritize work
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality
  • Travel may be required.
