Mechanical Engineer II performs assignments designed to develop professional engineering work, knowledge, and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related and moderate engineering tasks. Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.



Responsibilities

    Using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer. Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
  • Proficiency expected in the use of computers for design and CAD applications.
  • Organize and maintain project files.
  • Input of data into pre-written computer programs.
  • Operate computer and run reports or calculations.
  • Participate in on-site or field activities.
  • Design portions of a project.
  • Coordinate with other design professionals.
  • Document existing conditions and perform some troubleshooting.
  • Research, specify, and recommend available equipment.
  • Prepare design drawings and documents.
  • Perform technical analysis.
  • Edit master specification sections to be project specific.
  • Review shop drawings and RFI's.
  • Incorporate design concepts from schematic design into and work with project team to produce construction documents.
  • Attend construction progress meetings and produce site observation reports and final punch lists.
  • Begin performing quality assurance checks on others' work as directed by supervisor.
  • May be working on several concurrent projects.
  • Attend in-house seminars and educational opportunities outside of the office.
  • Participate in technical and professional societies.
  • Other duties as necessary and assigned.

Professional Activities:

  • Must be at least a member of (1) trade specific organization (ASHRAE, ASPE, AIA, etc).


Qualifications

  • Recommended: 4-7 years professional experience.

  • Bachelor's degree within an engineering discipline.

  • Completion of the EIT exam is strongly preferred; Professional Registration is desired after 4 years of experience.

  • Must be able to travel to work-sites as needed or required

  • Understanding of applicable design codes.

  • Must be able to communicate with a variety of individuals; must be able to follow verbal and written instructions/directions and respond to inquiries.

  • Limited contact with clients and contractors. Works directly for the various Project Designer/Engineers according to assignment.

  • Understanding of applicable engineering codes.

Professional Activities:

  • Must be at least a member of (1) trade specific organization (ASHRAE, ASPE, AIA, etc).

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting for excessive periods of time and, depending upon the assigned project, there may be occasional bending, crawling, carrying a ladder, climbing, and walking.
