As a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter of the functional area of the assignments, plans and conduct work require judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Responsible for overall supervision of project assigned. Resolves complex day-to-day problems of a mostly technical nature.

This position will often serve as the contact person with the client, other design professionals, and contractors.

When in the role of project leader, the incumbent will coordinate and schedule the work of the project team members.

Gives direction to less experienced Designers and Engineers. Assists in the development of staff.



Responsibilities

Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.

Performs work, which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of related specialties.

    Proficient use of computer spreadsheets and design programs for engineering analysis and equipment selections.
  • Assists in the preparation of proposals in a timely manner and submits to the client.
  • Participates in presentations.
  • Provides scope, schedule, and cost information.
  • Assign duties and schedules to team members.
  • Assigned to project team and makes major design recommendations.
  • Initiate additional service requests and turn over to Project Manager for submittal to client.
  • Produce sketches and system schematics for complicated design tasks.
  • Recognize problems quickly and provides solutions.
  • Edit master specification sections to be project specific.
  • Research non-routine code issues.
  • Prepare engineering opinion of probable cost for mechanical or electrical systems and review construction manager/contractor cost estimates.
  • Provide value engineering.
  • Involved in developing and maintaining company design and production standards.
  • Attend construction meetings and produce site observation reports and final punch lists.
  • Prepare addendums, proposal requests and change orders.
  • Review drawings for compliance with company standards.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on others' work.
  • Develop and maintain company design and production standards.
  • In role of project leader, coordinate staff activities and maintain responsibility for project budget, staffing, schedule, and quality.
  • May be required to act as Project Manager on specific technical projects.
  • May be working on several concurrent projects.
  • Assists in the client management to develop and retain clients.
  • Assist in development of staff.
  • Host in-house seminars and educational opportunities outside of the office.
  • Participate in technical and professional societies - get on a committee.
  • Prepare technical papers for submittal to regional/national publications (i.e., engineering magazines, facility management magazines).


Qualifications

  • Recommended: 8 - 11 years professional experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Professional Registration is strongly desired.
  • Must be able to travel to work- sites as needed or required.
  • Requires sufficient professional experience to assure competence as a fully trained Engineer who is capable of working on extremely complex projects.
  • Must be able to communicate verbal and written instructions/directions to the project team.
