CHIEF ENGINEER

Kress is looking for a full time Chief Engineer to join our team in the development of specialized industrial equipment for steel, construction, and mining industries.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for providing expertise, support, technical leadership, and mentoring to all aspects of the organization to ensure that end results meet business requirements with respect to quality, functionality, performance and on-time delivery.

Responsibilities -

Technical & Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to Manufacturing, Purchasing, Product Support, and other departments
  • Support resolution of engineering-related production issues
  • Advise Product Support and Customer Representatives on product variations and customer needs
  • Assist Parts department with legacy, inactive, and obsolete components by identifying alternatives when possible



Project & Change Management

  • Manage new product and engineering change (DER) projects from initiation to completion
  • Evaluate design variations, estimating schedule, cost, and scope
  • Review and process change requests from internal departments
  • Maintain project schedules, time estimates, and cost tracking
  • Manage the Engineering DER database, including assignment, review, approval, and closure of projects



Product & Component Oversight

  • Work with Purchasing on component specifications, cost, and availability
  • Provide support for legacy components and identify replacements for obsolete items
  • Review implementation status reports and release items to manufacturing when appropriate



Standards & Compliance

  • Enforce and support Engineering standards and guidelines
  • Participate in development and updates to Engineering standards
  • Ensure project changes align with established Engineering standards
  • Participate in identifying applicable industry standards for Kress manufactured carriers

    • This includes standards from other countries, such as applicable safety regulations and safety standards for CE compliance for the European Union market, and Australian standards, for example





Leadership & Administrative Support

  • Participate in meetings to review new product proposals and engineering initiatives
  • Support the Director of Engineering in performance review processes by providing feedback


  • Perform special projects and investigations as assigned



Qualifications -

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 10+ years Design experience in Manufacturing or Heavy Industry
  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred
  • Project Management experience
  • Expert level mathematical skills
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Solid understanding of the use of computer aided design systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Infor XA
  • Intermediate level in the use of Microsoft office
