Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Manager, Law Enforcement Academy, manages staff and/or resources to provide specific program or service offerings to internal or external stakeholders. The Manager plans and implements the program, ensuring it meets the needs of law enforcement, including the Basic Peace Officer training program and other training mandated by TCOLE. Serves as the training coordinator per TCOLE requirements. Ensures curriculum integrity, quality program offerings, and compliance with local, state, and Federal laws and regulations. Supervises guest instructors in the program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides supervision, evaluation, and quality assurance for the Law Enforcement Academy instructional program; plans, develops, and ensures implementation of programs to meet those needs; Develops appropriate curriculum and course materials, organizes course schedules, and ensures content is consistent with local, state, and Federal requirements
  2. Maintains relationships and compliance requirements with appropriate regulatory and accrediting organizations including local, state (TCOLE), and federal laws and policies as well as with national and international accrediting agencies
  3. Responsible for setting goals and action plans for program, continually evaluating the program, and making adjustments as needed to ensure continuous improvement of the program
  4. Responsible for the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of program Instructors and staff
  5. Provide reports and briefings as required to State and Federal Agencies, LSCS Board of trustees, and senior administrators. Participates on pertinent advisory committees, task forces and committees, strategic planning meetings and appropriate institutes, conferences, and seminars.
  6. Coordinates job placement opportunities for LEA graduates
  7. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Police Academy equipment, state and federal police academy regulations, and police procedure development and administration
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, which may require supervision of outdoor training exercises
  • Able to work autonomously and have a high degree of judgment and integrity
  • Advanced organization skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent decision making, conflict resolution, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE & CONDITIONS:

  • PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment, as well as any equipment generally associated with Law Enforcement
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed primarily in a climate-controlled office environment but may include exposure to outdoor environments for training exercises, including health and safety hazards typically associated with outside environments as well as with Law Enforcement Training

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Master TCOLE Certification
Salary

Hiring salary range is $58,625 - $67,419

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
