*Description*
The Denials & FollowUp Specialist is responsible for managing highvolume insurance claim denials, completing timely followup with commercial payers, and ensuring accurate resolution of outstanding balances. This role works heavily out of claim queues, investigates denial reasons, secures corrected claims or appeals, and communicates updates to internal teams. Behavioral health (BH) billing experience is highly preferred and considered more important than general medical billing knowledge due to the unique requirements of mental health claims. Claim Denials & FollowUp Work highvolume denial and A/R followup queues, prioritizing claims based on payer, aging, and denial category. Research and resolve commercial insurance denials, including eligibility, coding issues, prior authorization, place of service, telehealth rules, and medical necessity for BH services. Contact commercial payers by phone and portal to obtain claim status, validate denial reasons, and secure reprocessing or payment when appropriate. Submit corrected claims, appeals, reconsiderations, and documentation as required by payer guidelines. Document all actions, notes, and outcomes thoroughly in billing systems. Productivity & Workflow Manage an expected workload of 45 accounts per day (approximately 5 accounts per hour). Maintain accuracy and timeliness while working through multiple payer queues simultaneously. Identify trends in denials and escalate systemic issues to leadership. Collaboration & Compliance Partner with internal billing, credentialing, and provider operations teams to resolve claim discrepancies. *Additional Skills & Qualifications* Required Qualifications 4+ years of experience in medical billing, A/R followup, or denial management. Highvolume commercial payer experience required. Strong understanding of denial reasons, EOB interpretation, payer guidelines, and appeals workflows. Proven experience working out of claim queues in a fastpaced environment. Demonstrated ability to complete high daily account volumes with accuracy. Strong phone skills for calling payers and navigating IVR systems. Excellent documentation, organization, and troubleshooting skills. *Experience Level* Expert Level *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Jose, CA. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00/hr.
