Primary Role

The Epic Clinical Senior IT Application Analyst is a senior level position primarily responsible for the development, deployment, training, post-implementation support, product design, and testing cycles of the Epic Inpatient system for
one of the following modules: OR, Anesthesia, Emergency, Pharmacy, Oncology, CPOE, Clinical Documentation, Obstetrics/L&D, Radiology, Transplant or Ophthalmology. This includes planning, performing, managing, and
supporting identified Epic users in the Duke Medicine environment. The incumbent will provide identified liaison services between Epic and identified application deployment and
development staff. They will create and carry out implementation tasks, clinical workflow interpretation, and participate in Epic application build, testing and support for the assigned clinical module.
They will act as Epic application specialist for base functionality. Will work with others on the Application Support team to manage all user access to Epic systems and update test plans to account for testing of new features with all
releases. They will also participate in the design and specification of bug-fixes to ensure they meet the needs of the Duke environment, as well as participate in design sessions and review of specifications for new features and
enhancements in the Epic module. Advise and assist with educational issues, including cross-training of team members, end-users, and DHTS Service Desk via face-to-face, via phone or email, and via training classes.
EPIC ASSESSMENT:
All candidates for this position will complete formal Epic Assessments as part of the hiring process. The
assessments are designed to identify candidates whose skills most closely align with the position requirements.
CERTIFICATION:
The employee hired for this position will be required to obtain Epic certification through a formal Epic training program requiring attendance at the training facilities in Verona, Wisconsin. Training will commence on September 26, 2011,
for up to a period of six weeks for some positions, and may include classroom instruction, project assignments,competency exams, and e-learning classes. Failure to obtain Epic certification within the defined timeline for this
position may result in termination.

Epic Application Team Leader
Essential Tasks/Responsibilities
* Obtain additional Epic certifications in Report Writing and Security as needed through additional training at Epic (Madison, Wisconsin) for classroom instructions, multiple project assignments and competency exams
* Perform in-depth analysis of end user department workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with Epic software as they relate to system design and build decisions
* Proactively complete assigned Epic application deployment(s), management, and testing tasksManage the documentation, resolution and completion of identified deployment issues and tasks
* Participate in identified development and production support meetings, reviews, and design sessions, as assigned

* Build, test, and debug Epic application(s) to ensure the system meets end user requirements
* Develop and document system and user procedures as necessary
* Adhere to organizational policies and procedures and follow all change control processes for the Epic
Inpatient system
* Develop report specifications and work closely with report writers to ensure all operational and regulatory
reporting needs are met including reports necessary to comply with Meaningful Use requirements
* Provide system production support including the analysis, prioritization and implementation of requested
changes, analysis of new functionality, coordination of software release updates, system testing and
interface enhancements
* Work closely with business partners to identify business needs.
* Serves as a champion of the project
* Provides on call support for the application
* Design and adhere to organizational policies and procedures and follow all change control processes for the
Epic clinicals system
Education/training
Required: Bachelor degree, preferably in a clinical field and three years inpatient clinical experience
or offsetting informatics in healthcare experience
Attend six week Epic training program and obtain associated certification within six
months of program completion
Attend Epic Security and/or Reporting writing training programs as needed and obtain
associated certification(s) within six months of program completion
Preferred: College degree/training
Experience
Required: Five years of progressive healthcare IT experience
Preferred: Duke Health System experience; IT system deployment experience
Skills
Required: Knowledge and experience with health care information systems; high degree of
competency with learning and interpreting IT systems; excellent communication,
interpersonal and team skills; proven ability to lead meetings, prioritize, resolve conflicts,
maintain issues lists and manage a project plan; demonstrated written, verbal and followup
skills
Preferred: IT or clinical experience in an academic medical center or health system setting
Advanced training in SAS, JMP or other statistical software packages
Basic knowledge of standardized quality improvement methodologies; Lean training or Six
Sigma Black Belt, Green Belt or Design for Six Sigma certification
IT or clinical experience in one or more of the following areas: OR, Anesthesia,
Emergency, Pharmacy, Oncology, CPOE, Clinical Documentation, Obstetrics/L&D,
Radiology, Transplant or Ophthalmology.
