Job Description:

Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Hourly Project Specialist to work within the Bureau of Community Chronic Disease Prevention, Disability and Health Program (DHP), New York State Department of Health. The overarching goal of the DHP is to advance access to healthcare and improve health outcomes for individuals with disabilities. The incumbent will coordinate in-person and virtual focus groups with individuals with disabilities, as well as assist in the development of a topic specific survey for larger dissemination. This includes support in scheduling planning meetings, identification of appropriate partners, developing planning meeting agendas, note taking, presentation development, developing audience appropriate questions, using accessible formats for delivering focus groups, and partner engagement to promote survey dissemination. The incumbent will collaborate with partners that serve individuals with disabilities, including organizations serving the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of experience contributing to the coordination of program activities in a public health, health, health regulatory, or human services related program; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and four years of such experience; OR six years of such experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience with disability advocacy or related community organizations.

  • Working knowledge of accessibility concepts (physical accessibility, effective communication, and language access related to the Deaf Community).

  • Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and NYS Human Rights Law.

  • Demonstrated experience in meeting facilitation, comprehensive note taking for focus groups, listening/ story telling sessions, direct interviews, and/or survey development.

  • Demonstrated excellent writing skills.

  • Knowledge or experience writing in plain language.

  • Proficiency using Word, PowerPoint, Zoom.

  • Demonstrated experience synthesizing concepts into written reports.

  • Demonstrated experience in collection of qualitative data.

Conditions of Employment

Hourly, grant funded position expected to last through 7/31/2026. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel up to 10% of the time will be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with a combination of onsite and remote work.

Work Location Expectations

At HRI, the nature of hybrid and onsite work varies by position. Some roles require full onsite presence, while others allow a hybrid schedule. Managers determine the specific telecommuting expectations for each role based on operational needs and job responsibilities. If designated as hybrid, you will divide your time between working remotely and reporting onsite. Regardless of telecommuting status, all HRI employees must live within a reasonable commuting distance of their official work location and must reside in one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, or Vermont.
