Overview

The Continuous Improvement / Manufacturing Engineering Intern supports both the Continuous Improvement (CI) and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) teams by contributing to operational improvement and manufacturing engineering initiatives during the summer internship period. This role provides hands-on experience in lean manufacturing, process improvement, and production engineering while assisting with projects related to time studies, line launches, manufacturing documentation, and process optimization.

The intern will work closely with CI, AME, and other cross-functional teams to support manufacturing operations, analyze production capacity, and assist with new assembly line validation and improvement initiatives.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conduct updated time studies across FA manufacturing cells to support Syteline system updates.
  • Assist the AME team with run-off and validation activities for multiple new assembly line launches.
  • Perform time studies and capacity analysis for automated cassette testers within EA operations.
  • Develop and implement "Red Rabbit" job aids and job setup instructions to support standardized work.
  • Support manufacturing documentation requirements and updates.
  • Assist with line balancing initiatives to improve production efficiency.
  • Support 5S initiatives including label replenishment and workplace organization projects.
  • Participate in weekly progress reviews with assigned supervisors or mentors.
  • Complete assigned project work and provide documentation or reporting on results.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and production environments
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts such as time studies, line balancing, and 5S principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and document operational data
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, and operations
  • Must be proficient & knowledgeable with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be detail oriented and well organized
  • Ability to work in-person during the summer

Physical/Mental/Sensory Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 20 lbs
  • Able to stand and sit for various lengths of time
  • Able to bend/twist and reach a limited amount of time

Working Conditions

  • Mostly office environment including:
  • Light Manufacturing Environment
  • Little to Medium noise level
  • Moderate temperature ranges

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Previous coursework or project experience related to manufacturing, production systems, or engineering analysis preferred.
