GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under the general supervision of the Principal and/or Superintendent, the Speech Pathologist provides assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic, and instructional support services to students with speech and language impairments. The role ensures compliance with individual educational programs (IEPs) and meets the requirements set forth by Charter School Authority, state, and federal regulations. This position supports the efficient operation of the school or department through effective communication and coordination with administration, instructional and support staff, students and families. Tasks usually performed independently with periodic supervision or review.

Florida law requires all school personnel to undergo a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Education's Background Screening Clearinghouse. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Since every duty associated with this position may not be described herein, employees may be required to perform duties not specifically spelled out but may be considered incidental in the performance of this job.

  • Administers comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for speech and language disorders, including articulation, voice, fluency, and hearing; prepares detailed reports of findings.
  • Conducts speech-language and hearing screenings for students demonstrating academic or behavioral concerns; makes appropriate referrals for further evaluation and intervention.
  • Develops, implements, and annually reviews Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students on caseload, aligning therapy goals with individual student needs and academic performance.
  • Delivers speech-language therapy services to eligible students in accordance with their IEP, using evidence-based practices and individualized strategies.
  • Creates and follows a therapy schedule that maximizes instructional time while considering student needs and availability.
  • Develops daily lesson plans and prepares materials to support therapy sessions.
  • Maintains accurate and current records, including attendance longs, therapy progress notes, quarterly updates, and annual progress reports, as required byCharter School Authority, state, and federal regulations.
  • Participates in eligibility, placement, and IEP meetings; collaborates with parents, teachers, administrators, and other team members to support student progress.
  • Attends and contributes to Child Study Team meetings and assists in developing pre-referral classroom interventions.
  • Provides consultation and support to classroom teachers, including strategies for integrating speech and language goals into the general education environment.
  • Conducts reevaluations in compliance with regulatory timelines and guidelines.
  • Supports school reading initiatives by integrating language development strategies and promoting literacy skills.
  • Develops and implements augmentative communication systems, including communication boards and voice output devices; provides training and support for students and staff.
  • Attends professional development and in-service training to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices in speech-language pathology.
  • Reports compliance data and scheduling information to designated personnel for tracking and accountability.
  • Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Alternatives to the minimum qualifications can be made by the Board as they find appropriate and acceptable.
Education:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in speech-language pathology, or a related field.
Experience:
  • One (1) year of related work experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid Florida teacher certification and/or valid license in speech-language pathology.

ADDITIONAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Knowledge of and experience with industry-standard computer applications.
  • General knowledge of report and record keeping principles and techniques.
  • General knowledge of business mathematics.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Skilled in both written and oral communications, individually and in public, for effective expression and clarity.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of modern office equipment, i.e., computers, facsimile machines, and copiers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective-working relationships with supervisors, support staff, and others.
  • Ability to organize and review work for efficient results and accuracy.
  • Ability to perform duties with consistent courtesy and tact in the best interest of the public.
  • Ability to issue and follow oral and written instructions.
