Job Family Description

Information Technology / Operations Technology (IT/OT) professionals sculpt the technological framework of the organization through the creation and management of scalable and secure information systems. Charged with the development and deployment of solutions, they analyze short- and long-term requirements to enhance system functionality and efficiency. They design and refine software applications, ensuring integration with existing architectural paradigms while also developing network systems and infrastructure to support business needs. IT/OT personnel manage the organization's IT/OT landscape, guaranteeing the reliable operation of servers, databases, and other components of the technology ecosystem. By maintaining a secure and robust IT/OT infrastructure, they uphold the integrity and confidentiality of data while facilitating connectivity and accessibility. Information Technology / Operations Technology personnel continually adapt to technological advancements, ensuring the organization stays at the forefront of emerging IT/OT trends and is well-equipped to meet future challenges while maintaining secure and stable operations.

Discipline Description

Database Administrator (DBA) personnel manage, secure, and oversee the enterprise database environment. Their responsibilities include the installation, configuration, upgrading, administration, monitoring, maintenance, and security of databases. They ensure that databases have high availability and meet performance expectations, and are also responsible for improving database systems, implementing new technologies, and providing a secure environment that guards against unauthorized access or data loss. They routinely perform backup and recovery tasks, troubleshoot database issues, and work closely with other IT staff to optimize and integrate database systems to fulfill the technical needs of the organization.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Participate in the installation, configuration, and support of Oracle database software products as necessary to integrate them into the Site's computing environment. This role will require interaction with team members and other Site infrastructure personnel to develop and maintain a robust, scalable, and performant database infrastructure system at Savannah River Site (SRS).
Provide tactical design, engineering, technical specifications, project coordination, and configuration management for complex IT solutions. Assist more senior technical personnel in performing activities in more complex tasks and begin to provide guidance and technical expertise to junior personnel. Systems may consist of servers, desktops, storage devices, data center components, utility software, or equivalent infrastructure components. Comply with team processes and practices for execution of assigned tasks.

Required Qualifications

Database Management Skills and Technical Expertise needed:
* Provide technical expertise and support for Oracle19c database environment.
* Backup and recovery experience in a complex enterprise environment from both the operating systems and database perspectives.
* Oracle patching, maintenance, security vulnerability remediation following DISA standards, STIG requirements as well as industry best practices.
* Systems, infrastructure and database performance management and tuning
* UNIX/Linux administration in a complex enterprise environment.
* Maintain technical expertise in assigned emphasis areas and demonstrate flexibility in multiple disciplines.
* Complete assigned administrative tasks in a timely and quality fashion.
Proactively communicate and coordinate with others across IT to provide support for assigned areas.
* Incorporate conventional systems engineering practices into problem solving and program planning.
* Perform detailed system hardware/software troubleshooting.
* Define specific problems based on general problem information from management and/or customers. Plan technical effort and coordinate activities with those of other divisions, departments and sections to focus areas and solve problems.
* Ensure compliance with technical requirements of assigned work, proper utilization and training of personnel operating under one's technical guidance and compliance with approved schedules and staffing estimates.
* Ensure appropriate technical performance of the product developed and designed to resolve the original problem.
* Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness.
* Maintain system security through access monitoring, control and evaluation.
* Maintaining documentation and configuration information.
* Shift schedule is determined by job assignment and may include off hours schedule.

* Bachelor's degree in relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

* DOE Q Cleared and capable of working in classified computing environments.
* Understanding / Working knowledge of UNIX/LINUX & Window Server Administration.
* Understanding / Working knowledge of Virtualization such as KVM, VMWare, Hyper-V or cloud-based hosting.
* Understanding / working knowledge of programing languages such as Python, Bash Shell, PowerShell
* Understanding / working knowledge using SPLUNK.
* Understanding / working knowledge of database platforms including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB.
* Understanding / Working knowledge of DISA standard and Cybersecurity as it applies to Oracle databases.
* Understanding / Working knowledge of Machine Learning and Data Classification processes as it applies to databases.
* 5+ years of IT experience in a systems administer /database administrator role.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
