Posting Summary
The Dean's Office, School of Arts and Sciences-Newark, invites applications for a full-time, calendar-year, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice. The position will work across SASN, with an appointment to an academic department based on the finalist's expertise. This position is designed for a scholar-practitioner with strong applied experience in data science who will contribute to interdisciplinary teaching, grant-funded research support, building consultation capacity, and community-engaged initiatives aligned with SASN's mission.
The position will design and deliver short, intensive, skills-based data science modules for faculty, students, and community members. The successful candidate will also support faculty research and build and support SASN's consultation capacity.
Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver brief, intensive, skills-based instructional modules, including advanced data science topics, for diverse audiences (faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and community members).
  • Build consultation capacity and provide consultative support to faculty across the School of Arts and Sciences and to external partners on data-driven research design, methods, and tools.
  • Support external grant development, including methodological input, data management plans, and broader impacts related to data science.
  • Collaborate with grant-funded institutes, centers, and initiatives to strengthen interdisciplinary and community-engaged research.
  • Contribute to community-engaged and public-interest data science activities aligned with SASN's mission.
  • Participate in service activities appropriate to a full-time faculty member appointment.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in applied data science methods and tools.
  • Experience teaching or training diverse audiences in data science or computational skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across disciplinary boundaries.

Certifications/Licenses

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with grant-funded research institutes or centers.
  • Experience designing short-form or intensive training programs or workshops.
