Payroll Tax Analyst

A growing organization is seeking a Payroll Tax Analyst to support payroll tax compliance and garnishment administration. This role is responsible for managing payroll tax transactions, wage attachments, reconciliations, reporting, and audit support while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, experienced with ADP Smart Compliance and Workday, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and process employee garnishments including child support, student loans, wage assignments, bankruptcy orders, and federal and state tax levies in compliance with applicable regulations
  • Open, review, scan, and upload garnishment documents received via mail, email, or agencies into ADP Smart Compliance
  • Maintain CSC records by downloading, reviewing for accuracy and completeness, and uploading garnishments timely
  • Respond to inquiries from ADP, courts, agencies, and employees regarding wage attachments
  • Process employee garnishment refunds in Workday
  • Ensure accurate calculation, withholding, and payment of all federal, state, and local payroll taxes
  • Monitor and interpret changes in tax law to maintain compliance
  • Register new tax jurisdictions as required for business expansion or employee relocation
  • Assist in audits to identify employees subject to local tax requirements and ensure proper city tax withholding
  • Respond to payroll tax notices and resolve issues with tax agencies
  • Provide documentation and reporting support for internal and external audits
  • Support year-end tax activities including W-2 issuance and employee inquiries
  • Assist with preparation and filing of quarterly and annual payroll tax returns including Forms 941, 940, W-2, W-3, and applicable state and local equivalents
  • Reconcile payroll tax accounts with the general ledger and resolve discrepancies promptly
  • Partner with Payroll, HRIS, Compensation, Finance, Accounting, Operations, and other departments to maintain accurate employee data

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required
  • 3-5 years of payroll tax and garnishment experience
  • Strong multi-state payroll tax knowledge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and related software
  • Experience with Workday, ADP, CSC, or similar payroll systems strongly preferred
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
