DESCRIPTION

The Department of Neurosciences is a large department within the UCSD School of Medicine. The Department's mission is to create the synergies and define the ideas and programs that will allow us to transform the way our neurosciences community discovers, teaches and cares. We strive to conduct cutting-edge science and research and train the next generation of neurologists and researchers by fostering education at all levels and integrating the latest scientific and medical advances into the curriculum.

The Neuroimmunology Research Program pursues translational and clinical studies to advance understanding and improve the treatment of disorders such as multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, optic neuritis, and other central nervous system autoimmune diseases. From biomarker and genetic studies to clinical trials, the program offers exciting opportunities to participate in patient-oriented research.

Under direction of the Neuroimmunology Program Director, the Neuroimmunology Research Staff Supervisor provides operational leadership for the overall administration and outcome of multiple clinical studies, requiring advanced-level knowledge and skills, involving human subjects that are being conducted in the Neuroimmunology division. Manages staffing, workload allocation; training; quality oversight; regulatory and policy compliance; infrastructure before and during study execution; including database management, space allocation, equipment procurement, and specimen/sample storage and transportation; and cross-functional coordination. Ensures that start-up, execution and close-out activities are carried out by the coordination team according to protocols, GP and institutional requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervises staff involved in routine research study coordination. Receives predetermined work assignments that are subject to a moderate level of control and review. Oversees staff in execution of assignments; trains and mentors staff to improve quality and quantity of work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven (7) years of related experience or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant area plus three (3) years of applicable experience.

  • Working knowledge of clinical or laboratory research, clinical trial recruitment, eligibility, protocol adherence, quality data submission and adverse event reporting.

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, prioritize projects and meet the demands of a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Adaptable to quickly changing priorities.

  • Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration. Demonstrated experience in training others, particularly in the field of research.

  • Critical thinking skills to evaluate issues and identify a potential solution.

  • Clear and concise communicator; good verbal and written communication skills; both. Demonstrated writing excellence including preparation of official documents and correspondences.

  • Good interpersonal skills, including but not limited to: problem-solving, teamwork development, leadership, mentorship. Interpersonal skills to effectively motivate others. Works well with others to achieve common goals. Ability to cultivate relationships with multiple stakeholders at various levels of administration.

  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Effectively uses campus' clinical information and documentation application programs. Proven ability utilizing clinical trial management systems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic institutional review board clinical trials submission process and regulations.

  • Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA and institutional privacy regulations as they relate to human research.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret complex research protocols in order to screen patients for eligibility, initiate study plan, collect data, evaluated for adverse events and protocol deviations.

  • Demonstrated experience working with FDA regulations, policies and procedures, and good Clinical Practice guidelines for the conduct of clinical research.

  • Advance knowledgeable of human resource policies and procedures including bargaining unit represented employees.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a group of highly trained professionals, delegate tasks, monitor productivity, and keep them focused on the mission of the organization.

  • Must possess strong leadership, organizational, planning and management skills.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Clinical Trial Professional certification from a professional society within one year in position.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required. Occasional travel required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $88,000 - $161,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $42.15 - $77.39

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
