Position Summary
The White Lab is seeking a full-time Lab Manager who will support research exploring the genetics and genomics of sex chromosomes. The employee will manage the fish facility, maintain lab supplies, and manage undergraduate workers. The employee will also have the opportunity to support research projects in the lab. The position will include managing a stickleback aquaculture facility, assisting with multiple research projects, maintaining lab supplies, training new lab members, managing undergraduate workers, and participating in regular laboratory meetings.

  • Experience with aquaculture
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Duties/Responsibilities
Manage the stickleback aquaculture facility:

  • Manage the daily feeding schedule. Feeding includes regularly optimizing diet for multiple species of fish.
  • Perform maintenance on aquaculture equipment.
  • Manage system maintenance and cleaning schedules.
  • Coordinate with other lab members on research needs to manage tank space.
  • Manage colony to maintain stocks of fish at all developmental stages.
  • Maintain daily fish care logs.

Participate in research:

  • Perform independent research on new fish husbandry procedures.
  • Research ways to improve the reproductive output of multiple species of stickleback fish.
  • Assist with other graduate student research projects in the lab.
  • Co-author publications with faculty and graduate assistants in the lab.
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings.

Supervision of other employees:

  • Interview, train, and supervise multiple undergraduate employees in the lab.
  • Provide mentoring on job performance.
  • Manage undergraduate schedules.

  • Oversee lab inventory and manage ordering supplies.
  • Oversee chemical inventory. Includes managing expiration dates and arranging for chemical disposal.
