General Summary:

Installs locks in doors, desks, office equipment and other devices. Performs ongoing maintenance and repair of existing locking systems and door closing hardware. Originate and/or duplicate keys with proper prior approvals from Facilities leadership

Examples of Duties:





    • Repairs and/or replaces broken door knobs and door closers.
    • Installs new lever sets, door closers and exit devices.
    • Installs, repairs or replaces desk and cabinet locks.
    • Troubleshoots and determines corrective action on malfunctioning locks and door closers.
    • Modifies lock functions to satisfy user needs.
    • Makes keys for doors, cabinets, desks, vehicles or other equipment.
    • Changes combinations on mechanical and electronic locks.
    • Rekeys existing locks as needed.
    • Opens vehicle locks.
    • Diligently maintains critical records on key cut and master key systems.
    • Estimates costs associated with locksmithing activities.
    • Initiates paperwork to purchase necessary supplies and maintain inventories.
    • Monitors security locks' software (currently Lene!) for low battery, replaces batteries at locations as needed.





Qualifications:




    • A minimum of five years' experience in general locksmithing.
    • Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and codes that governing the locksmith trade and the ability to apply such knowledge to the performance of assigned duties.
    • Knowledge of master keying and standard key coding systems and the ability to skillfully apply such knowledge.
    • Knowledge of the types and uses of hand tools ordinarily employed in performing locksmith work and the ability to skillfully use such tools in the performance of assigned duties. These include, but are not limited to tools such as hammers, saws, planes, wrenches, pliers, taps, dies, screwdrivers, chisels and hand-operated drills.
    • Knowledge of the types and uses of hand held power tools ordinarily employed in performing locksmith work and the ability to skillfully use such tools in the performance of assigned duties. These include, but are not limited to, power drills, power saws and power hammers.
    • Knowledge of the types and uses of measuring equipment ordinarily employed in performing locksmith work and the ability to skillfully use such devices in the performance of assigned duties. These include, but are not limited to, calipers, levels, rulers, gauges and steel squares.
    • Knowledge of the types and uses of safety and/or climbing equipment ordinarily employed in performing carpentry work, and the ability to uses such devices in the performance of assigned duties. These include, but are not limited to, scaffolds, ladders and rigging.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, plans, diagrams, drawings, sketches, specifications and installation instructions as required to perform assigned duties.
    • Knowledge of safety practices and precautions observed in the carpentry trade.
    • Ability to perform arithmetical computations with speed and accuracy (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).







    • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
    • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
    • Ability to make decisions and react quickly in emergency situations.
    • Preferred Qualifications:

      • Knowledge of, and experience working with, Best, Sargent and Medco and Cyber key systems;
      • Bonded Locksmith
      • Certified Registered Locksmith (or greater)
