About the Position The Resident Engineer serves as the on-site technical authority responsible for administering and overseeing public infrastructure construction projects for the Flood Control District. In this role, you will provide professional engineering expertise, direct field inspection activities, problem-solve, and facilitate communication among contractors, consultants, project managers, and internal and external stakeholders. This position ensures that all construction activities comply with contract documents, engineering standards, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements, while ensuring timely and cost-effective project delivery. The Resident Engineer promotes safety, maintains project quality, and protects public resources through diligent oversight, accurate documentation, and proactive problem-solving. We Require
Two years of professional experience as a Resident Engineer with direct work experience in construction, dam safety, and geotechnical engineering Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Environmental, etc.) Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, or by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona Registration within six months of employment
Other Requirements Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire We Also Value
Skilled in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others Horizontal construction experience in public works projects, emphasizing flood control-type projects, including dam safety-related construction experience Construction experience on roadway and transportation projects Experience in review of projects for constructability and bid-readiness Experience with construction alternative project delivery methods. Certified Construction Manager (CCM) Experience on federally funded construction projects
Job Contributions
Perform as a senior construction manager, directly managing field construction activities on multiple construction projects. Provide construction oversight, administration, and management duties with full accountability for all aspects of projects. This includes providing guidance and direction to contractors, resolving construction issues and problems at the lowest level, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements Perform in-house reviews of construction plans and specifications, participate in constructability reviews, and prepare reports documenting construction activities and progress Use engineering knowledge to identify and resolve construction problems within the context of the plans and specifications. And accomplishes this within the regulatory requirements for the project Provide guidance and mentor other Construction Managers and Inspectors Coordinate with project managers, stakeholders, and agencies to ensure the successful completion of construction projects that will meet the expectations of all project partners Other job duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration Requires work at field locations with exposure to dust, construction and operational noise, odors, and uneven terrain. Field work may occur in all weather conditions, including extreme heat Some inspections may require working at multiple stories above grade. Traveling from inspection to inspection in rural areas can require long periods of sitting
