Your Job

Lead a team of engineers to optimize designs for component and assembly manufacturability. This role plays an integral part in ensuring that designs are feasible to manufacture, then qualifies them to ensure that fit, form, and function meet requirements within the time and budget of the program. You will work with the Molex cross functional team, suppliers, and customers to drive flawless product launches and resolve design and manufacturing challenges. Finally, you will mentor a global team of engineers in their development.

What You Will Do

  • Technical and personnel management of the global DFM team
  • Ensure that the design and product quality of the products meets our expectations
  • Regularly question and optimize the work processes of your team
  • Support the ME design team already in the concept phase to optimize the design and pass on your experience and knowledge to the developers
  • Act as integral participant in Molex and supplier design reviews to ensure lessons learned and best practices are applied prior to kicking off tooling.
  • Understand key product characteristics and requirements that are critical to design intent.
  • Recommend design modifications based on tooling constraints, process capabilities, quality requirements, and cost considerations.
  • Drive component development to confirm that dimensional, functional, and appearance requirements are satisfied.
  • Lead root cause analysis on validation failures and manufacturing issues to develop efficient, robust permanent corrective actions.
  • Support trial builds at suppliers and Molex manufacturing sites to verify process optimization and shorten development time
  • Collaborate with MIE and production teams to resolve any cost of poor-quality challenges.
  • Leverage comparative advantages from a global, diverse technical team with skillsets in many different commodities.
  • Utilize, administer, and grow engineering processes for continuous improvement.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement to create a positive, collaborative work environment.
  • Manage supplier timelines to ensure that customer deliverables are met.
  • Make informed, timesensitive decisions while assessing risks to keep program milestones on track.
  • Attend supplier technical reviews to audit expertise and assess technical ability.
  • Utilize virtual validation such as Moldflow and FEA among others to make data driven decisions on design concepts.
  • Use 3D/CT scans and develop fixtures/gages to qualify component integrity and geometry.
  • Evaluate alternative materials and processes to drive cost and/or performance improvements.
  • Support the execution of Engineering Change Orders for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Create presentations and build credibility with customers.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 10 years of experience in the design of automotive products made of materials such as plastic, sheet metal, aluminum and die casting
  • Knowledge of injection molding and plastic injection molding
  • Experience in creating and reading mechanical drawings
  • Experience in the design and determination of tolerances
  • Experience in dealing with suppliers in coordinating the quality of tools and products
  • Strong background in engineering principles, product development, and technical problem-solving.
  • Strong knowledge of materials such as resins and metals, tooling concepts and limitations, and manufacturing methods such as injection molding, diecasting, stamping, plating, and assembly.
  • Experience in providing technical mentorship to engineers.
