Winston-Salem State University invites applications for the position of Coordinator of the Writing and Communications Center. Reporting to the Associate Dean of University College, this role serves as the chief administrator of the Writing and Communications Center and provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and assessment management to advance student success through writing, research, and communication support services.
The Coordinator will lead daily operations across face-to-face and virtual modalities, supervise a team of peer and professional writing consultants, and strengthen the Center's mission through data-informed decision-making, program development, and institutional reporting.

Key Responsibilities



  • Provide day-to-day leadership and operational oversight of the Writing and Communications Center
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate approximately 15 peer and professional writing consultants
  • Manage staffing coverage, payroll coordination, and personnel documentation
  • Lead assessment, analytics, and reporting on utilization, outcomes, and service impact
  • Develop and evaluate programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives to increase student engagement
  • Build partnerships with faculty and campus units to expand awareness and usage of Center services
  • Oversee the Center's facilities, technology systems, equipment, and learning spaces
  • Manage budget planning, track expenditures, and recommend service enhancements aligned with institutional priorities



Work Schedule


Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Some evenings and occasional weekends as needed

Department Required Skills
Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution, in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience working in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic support services, writing centers, or learning support environments

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Master's degree in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, English, Communication, Education, or a related field
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience working in a college or university setting.
  • Experience supervising full time, part-time (including student employees) staff, or graduate assistants.
  • Experience with LMS systems such as Canvas, as well as other management and reporting systems such as EAB Navigate and WCOnline.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
