WHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING

At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences-from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you'll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world's most important challenges-striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career.

THE ROLE

Join AMD's SimNow AI team and help evolve how we build software simulation platforms with AI and large language models (LLMs). SimNow is a C++ simulator that supports validation of the softwarevisible behavior of nextgeneration AMD designs. In this role, you'll collaborate with simulation engineers, AI practitioners, and tooling experts to create intelligent agents that generate device models, automate workflows, and improve developer experience.

You'll learn advanced C++ application architecture, prompt and context design for code generation, evaluation methods for AIassisted development, and practices used in presilicon validation and SoC simulation. We value clear problemsolving, thoughtful collaboration, and a learning mindset in an environment that supports different working and communication styles.

THE PERSON

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys learning new systems, sharing knowledge, and collaborating with teammates in a supportive environment. You approach debugging and problemsolving systematically, communicate ideas clearly in both written and collaborative settings, and value building tools that help other developers work more effectively. You are open to feedback, appreciate diverse perspectives, and adapt well as new information or challenges arise. Above all, you bring an interest in using AI responsibly to enhance real engineering workflows and are motivated by contributing to a team where learning and continuous improvement are core values.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build AIassisted code generation agents that translate hardware specifications (e.g., PDFs, tables, diagrams) into C++ device models
  • Design multistep agentic workflows that explore codebases, identify patterns, generate code, build, test, and iterate safely
  • Develop prompts, contextassembly strategies, pattern libraries, and validation approaches for reliable code generation
  • Create dashboards, metrics, and observability to understand AI utility, usage patterns, and impact
  • Extend Pythonbased test harnesses and build evaluation frameworks for code quality, correctness, and specification alignment
  • Help create internal copilots and assistants that support the SimNow developer community

What you'll accomplish:

First 3 months:

  • Learn the SimNow environment, tooling, and development practices.
  • Contribute to prompt libraries and initial codegeneration experiments.
  • Ship improvements to existing Python test infrastructure.

6 months:

  • Own components of the agentic pipeline (e.g., pattern extraction, evaluation).
  • Deliver measurable improvements to codegeneration quality or developer experience.
  • Build dashboards and/or metrics that illuminate AI effectiveness and safety.

12 months and beyond:

  • Shape nextgeneration LLMpowered simulation workflows.
  • Introduce automation that meaningfully accelerates model development and testing.
  • Contribute to best practices for AIassisted engineering across the organization.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Understanding of compiler fundamentals (preprocessing, compilation, linking), headers/includes, compilation units, and interpreting compiler messages.
  • Proficiency with modern C++ (C++11/14/17): classes, basic templates, STL containers, and memory semantics (pointers vs. references).
  • Python for scripting, test automation, and basic data analysis.
  • Version control with Git (clone, commit, push/pull, branching).
  • Experience in one of the following focus areas:
  • AI/ML & LLMs: projects, coursework, or internships involving code generation or prompt engineering.
  • Build systems & tooling: cmake, make, or experience with complex/large builds.
  • Test automation: pytest, unittest, or CI/CD; interest in quality and reproducibility.

Helpful exposure (nice to have; can be learned on the job):

  • Largescale C++ application architecture.
  • Advanced prompt engineering and agentic system design.
  • Presilicon validation workflows and SoC simulation.
  • MLOps for codegeneration systems (telemetry, evaluation, continuous improvement).
  • Computer architecture concepts; Verilog/SystemVerilog familiarity.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
