Job Summary

The Cohen Lab at WHOI seeks a part-time Lab Helper (casual position, no benefits) to support lab management and operations for up to 20 hours per week. This position offers flexible hours and is ideal for an organized, detail-oriented individual interested in gaining hands-on laboratory experience.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with vendors and assist with supply procurement

  • Organize, label, and archive samples

  • Track and ensure timely sample analysis

  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory analyses

  • Update and manage the coral core archive

  • Identify supply needs and place orders

  • Monitor equipment and flag items needing maintenance or replacement

  • Assist with fieldwork planning and logistics

As appropriate, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to develop additional technical skills, including AI-assisted image analysis and basic programming.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in a quantitative discipline)

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks proactively

  • Basic computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Photoshop and/or Illustrator)

Additional Job Requirements

Hourly Pay Range: $22.08 - 28.33

The range provided for this position reflects the expected minimum and maximum hourly pay for new hires. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as internal equity and market conditions.

Appointment Details:
This is a casual, part-time position (maximum 20 hours per week) without benefits. Following a three-month trial period, the position may continue for up to one year. Extension beyond one year, and the possibility of increasing to time with benefits, is contingent upon funding availability.
