The Lead Solution Architect serves as the senior technical authority across a portfolio of modernization, shared services, and security-focused initiatives in support of our client. This role is responsible for defining and governing end-to-end solution architectures that balance business needs, technical feasibility, security requirements, and long-term sustainability. The Lead Solution Architect provides strategic direction, architectural oversight, and hands-on guidance to ensure solutions are scalable, reusable, secure, and aligned with enterprise goals.

This position operates at the intersection of enterprise architecture, shared technical enablement, and security engineering, providing cohesion across teams and ensuring that technical decisions drive measurable value.

What will you do in this role?

Enterprise Architecture & Innovation Leadership

  • Define and maintain solution and architectural roadmaps that align modernization efforts with organizational strategy and future-state objectives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, architectural patterns, and tooling to inform strategic investment decisions and innovation initiatives.
  • Reduce technical debt by guiding system evolution toward standardized, interoperable, and cloud-optimized architectures.
  • Provide architectural guidance and decision support to leadership through trade studies, impact analyses, and solution options.

Shared Solutions & Technical Enablement

  • Lead the design and adoption of shared technical solutions, reusable components, automation frameworks, and DevSecOps capabilities across teams.
  • Partner with delivery leadership to ensure shared services are operationalized, adopted, and embedded into delivery pipelines rather than remaining isolated assets.
  • Establish architectural standards, reference designs, and best practices that improve consistency, delivery velocity, and maintainability.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for cross-team dependencies, integration challenges, and complex design decisions.

Security Integration & Engineering Oversight

  • Ensure security is embedded into solution designs from inception, balancing compliance, risk mitigation, and delivery efficiency.
  • Collaborate with security engineering and compliance teams to align architectures with cloud security best practices, defense-in-depth principles, and regulatory expectations.
  • Guide secure cloud migrations, identity and access patterns, and security tooling integration into development and deployment pipelines.
  • Support ongoing authorization, vulnerability management, and continuous security improvement through architectural direction.

Cross-Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to program leadership, product managers, engineers, and security stakeholders.
  • Provide architectural oversight across multiple teams and workstreams, ensuring alignment without constraining team autonomy.
  • Mentor architects and senior engineers, raising overall architectural maturity across the organization.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

What do you need to succeed in this role?

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • 12-15 years of progressive experience in solution architecture, systems engineering, or enterprise technology roles.
  • Experience in regulated or compliance-driven environments (e.g., healthcare, public sector). Preference given to CMS experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and governing architectures across cloud-based, distributed, and security-sensitive environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern development practices including agile delivery, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
  • Proven ability to balance architectural rigor with pragmatic delivery needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a technical or management discipline.
  • Experience in regulated or compliance-driven environments (e.g., healthcare, public sector, financial services).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS or equivalent) and modern API-based integration patterns.
  • Experience leading or influencing architectural decisions across multiple teams or portfolios.
  • Familiarity with interoperability standards and data exchange frameworks.

Preferred Certifications

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional (or equivalent)
  • TOGAF or other enterprise architecture certification
  • Security-focused certifications (e.g., CISSP) are a plus but not required
