About the Job:
The employee will be required to perform mouse echocardiography, left heart catheterizations, mouse electrophysiology studies and telemetry implantations, jugular viral injections, and mouse surgeries including the left anterior descending coronary artery ligation model of myocardial infarction in addition to routine laboratory functions such as protein extraction, Western blotting, cell isolations, PCR, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, mass spectrometry sample preparation, and others as assigned.

Supervises research assistants of the lab: responsibilities will include hiring recommendation, training, counseling, assigning work to, and evaluating research assistant performance.

Assumes primary responsibility for the development, communication and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures for research and administrative functions in research setting.

Participates with the PI in the development of a coordinated budget. May administer the operational budget under the direction of the PI.

Reviews current literature to update approaches to research being conducted. Assigns review of specific literature to lab members.

Determines the direction of research efforts by reviewing data from previous research and external research papers to identify, troubleshoot, and fix problem areas.

Sets up hypothesis, designs and runs experiments to test them. Responsible for the development of research methodology used.

Ensures accurate collection and analysis of data gathered in research experiments. Interprets data using statistical methodology.

When appropriate, prepares, writes and presents papers for publication as the principal investigator on research projects.

Participates in grant application preparation under the direction of the PI.

Participates in University committees both research and non-research when available.

May contact individuals both internal and external to the University to provide professional consultation within area or expertise and to exchange information.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Advanced Degree (PhD or MS) in Neuroscience, Microbiology or Immunology with substantial post-degree research experience and publication record
Experience in Immunology research and animal surgery
Experience in directing research assistants

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to assist in writing manuscripts and grants
Ability to manage scientific projects with a high degree of independence
Strong verbal and written communications skills

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $74,000 - $88,000 annual; depending on education/qualifications/experience
