Overview
The Azure Core Organization builds the foundational layer of Microsoft's cloud platform for utility computing. This layer forms one of the lowest levels of the combined services, software, and hardware stack, providing an efficient virtualized computational substrate, a fully automated service management system, and a broad set of highly scalable storage services. These components enable the reliability, performance, and scale required to support Microsoft's cloud offerings. Within this organization, the Azure Compute Platform Capacity and Efficiency (Azure Compute Platform Capacity and Efficiency (AC2E)) team oversees all aspects of compute platform capacity and efficiency management across the entire fleet. The team ensures that capacity is available across all allocation scopes to meet customer demand while also ensuring that capacity is provisioned efficiently to avoid overspending and negative impacts to cost of goods sold (cost of goods sold (COGS)) and capital expenditures (capital expenditures (CAPEX)). At the scale of Azure's business, balancing these priorities is highly complex, and improvements can prevent customer allocation failures while also generating significant cost savings. As a Data Scientist IC3 on this team, you will collaborate with software engineers, program managers, and data engineers across Azure. Responsibilities include implementing and measuring metrics, applying statistical techniques to analyze data, identifying patterns, making platform recommendations, contributing to platform intelligence, and using visualization methods to drive insights that lead to meaningful business outcomes. Your work will directly influence improvements to the Azure platform, service capacity fulfillment rates, customer satisfaction, and efficiency metrics such as cost of goods sold (COGS) reduction. You will also have opportunities for mentorship, career growth, and contributions to high-impact areas of the business. Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond. Responsibilities
