Position Highlights

The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is seeking a vice chair of education in the Department of Dermatology. This is an opportunity for an outstanding leader with a national reputation as a clinician, educator and collaborator.

The Department of Dermatology has existing strengths in medical student education as well as basic and translational research in skin cancer. The Department is seeking to expand the educational activities for medical students and to establish a dermatology residency program in partnership with Banner - University Medical Group (B-UMG). Clinical activities will be at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, which has an established and growing dermatology program specializing in cutaneous oncology that is part of a research-driven multidisciplinary skin cancer care team. For candidates with an active research program, the position will also include protected time for research and research start-up funding.

The vice chair will work in strategic consultation with the department chair, the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education and the Office of Graduate Medical Education. They will assist the department in developing and implementing an education strategic plan, establishing a dermatology residency program, serving as a mentor and developing collaborative relationships with the university, clinical and community partners.

The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in the Department of Dermatology, actively participate in teaching, clinical service and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.

The successful candidate will meet the requirements of either a career track or tenure track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement departmental education vision and infrastructure.
  • Establish a dermatology residency program.
  • Build internal and external relationships to inspire and promote academic collaborations across the health system.
  • Promote and provide a teaching environment of the highest quality and integrity.
  • Foster education programs of national distinction through innovation and collaboration.
  • Mentor medical students, residents, fellows and faculty.
  • Engage in teaching activities for students, residents and fellows.
  • Participate in appropriate department and/or College committees as well as professional organizations, as appropriate.
  • Research or other scholarly work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess an MD or MD/PhD or
    equivalent degree(s) from an accredited instruction.
  • Be board certified in Dermatology and be eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona.
  • Be eligible for medical staff
    membership at B-UMG and Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Be eligible for a University of
    Arizona academic appointment at the associate professor level or higher.
  • Have at least three years of
    education and/or administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of clinical
    excellence and clinical scholarship.
  • Demonstrated track record of
    scholarly activity.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Have experience as residency program director or associate program director.
  • Demonstrate experience in the development and successful implementation of new educational programs.
  • Show experience with community partnership and collaboration.
  • Have at least three years of undergraduate and graduate medical education experience.
  • Experience mentoring students and/or residents in research projects.
  • Experience supervising faculty and staff.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication and professionalism skills.
