What You Will Be Doing

We are seeking a highly experienced Power Electronics Hardware Leader to drive the design and development of next-generation high-power EV charging and energy conversion systems. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in power electronics with a proven track record in leading engineering teams and delivering complex hardware-software solutions to market. This role requires hands-on experience with embedded firmware development, control systems, and multi-level power converter design, ideally in renewable energy, EV charging, or energy storage applications.

This position offers a unique opportunity to influence product architecture, guide a rapidly growing engineering team, and contribute to cutting-edge solutions in fast-charging and grid-interactive power systems.

What You Will Bring to ChargePoint

  • Manage a team of power electronics engineers by delegating tasks and responsibilities, resolving technical challenges, and fostering cross-functional collaboration through mentorship.
  • Lead architecture, design, and development of high-power AC/DC and DC/DC systems for consumer and commercial EV chargers.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of advanced soft-switching converters (40-100kW, up to 2000V DC) and multi-level four-quadrant grid-tied inverters (100-200kW, up to 2000V DC) compliant with EU and NA grid regulations.
  • Manage end-to-end product development, including:

    • System modeling, simulation, and analysis using PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, and SPICE
    • Key component selection and schematic capture
    • PCB layout and high-speed hardware design

    • Embedded firmware development for microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGA-based control systems
    • Magnetics, thermal, and mechanical integration
    • Design for manufacturability, reliability, and regulatory compliance

  • Implement advanced power electronics topologies such as LLC, phase-shifted full-bridge, flyback, forward, and PFC (single- and three-phase) with soft-switching techniques (ZVS/ZCS).
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (mechanical, software, and test) to identify early architectural decisions and resolve late-stage development challenges.
  • Ensure products meet stringent reliability and performance standards under extended stress conditions and diverse operating environments.
  • Mentor and grow a high-performing engineering team while contributing as an individual technical leader.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering required; Ph.D. preferred.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience bringing power electronics products to market.
  • Strong expertise in AC/DC and DC/DC converter design, system-level trade-offs, and high-power hardware architecture.
  • Proficiency in embedded firmware development for microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGA/PLD platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive solutions across electrical, software, mechanical, and thermal domains.
  • Deep understanding of power electronics simulation, modeling, and analysis tools (PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE).
  • Familiarity with industry standards for consumer and industrial products; EV charging standards knowledge is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.Willingness to travel as needed.
