About This Role

The Student Legal Services Attorney provides free, confidential, legal assistance to Kansas State University (KSU) student clients. Consistent with that goal, Legal Services is also engaged in an on-going educational effort, using social media, marketing, and speaking engagements, to inform students of their legal rights and responsibilities.

Student Legal Services (SLS) in the Division of Academic Success & Student Affairs at Kansas State University has been providing free, confidential legal advice to students since 1971. Worksite Description

This position is Hybrid eligible. The position is expected to be on-campus but may have remote hours for spending time supporting clients in court or to student groups for presentations. The successful candidate will discuss the details of their position at the time of hiring. Remote work is granted at the discretion of the direct supervisor. Additional details about potential hybrid work in this role can be discussed during interviews.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a juris doctor degree
  • One year of relevant experience.


Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Kansas.

This position requires advanced legal knowledge and regulatory expertise, which are most reliably developed through a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school a prerequisite for licensure to practice law. Combined with the required experience, these qualifications ensure the candidate is equipped to advise university students of their legal rights.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • At least 2 years of legal experience
  • Experience working with students and varying populations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work effectively, prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, evaluate and report activities in the area of legal counsel.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
