THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Medium Voltage Electrician in Allegheny County. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, it is essential to possess the personal hand tools typically required of a journeyman electrician. Responsibilities include the cleaning and lubrication of ventilation fan motors, bearings, dampers, and drive units, along with performing necessary mechanical repairs, adjustments, and parts replacements. The role also involves identifying and diagnosing faults in electrical circuitry and defective components by interpreting technical drawings and schematics, as well as utilizing various testing equipment.

Additionally, the technician is tasked with repairing, adjusting, or replacing worn or malfunctioning components. The work encompasses both low-voltage control circuits and high-voltage industrial systems, specifically those operating between 480 volts and 23,000 volts. This includes servicing and cleaning tunnel light fixtures, which entails re-lamping, ballast replacement, socket fixture repairs, rewiring, and other necessary replacements. Furthermore, the technician is responsible for the installation of electrical devices, fixtures, cables, and conduits, ensuring compliance with established standards and electrical codes, while also servicing and maintaining detection and recording devices.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may require rotating shift work due to 24/7 operations.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of journey-level experience in the electrical trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
