Description

The NYSTEC Don Hanson Internship Program offers students the opportunity to work alongside NYSTEC professionals to apply academic knowledge in a real-world consulting environment. Interns gain hands-on experience while developing critical business and professional skills that support our clients, partners, andorganization.

InternshipExperience - Business and Data Analyst Intern

As an intern in NYSTEC's Modernization and Data Solutions practice area, you will support research, requirements documentation, data analysis, and reporting. You will help improve internal tools and documentation standards while building foundational analytical skills and contributing to high-quality project deliverables.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of requirements documentation and assist with background research activities
  • Assist with data cleanup, validation, and basic analyses under team guidance
  • Help prepare dashboards and reporting materials to support project tracking and decision-making
  • Contribute to creating and refining internal templates, tools, and documentation standards
  • Support consistency and quality across project deliverables
  • Participate in internal and client-facing meetings and help prepare reports and presentations
  • Learn and apply NYSTEC tools and processes while collaborating with internal and external partners


Required Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) and ability to query and join datasets
  • Experience with Power BI or Tableau, building simple dashboards
  • Familiarity with data cleaning and transformation concepts
  • Introductory knowledge of Python or R for data analysis
  • Understanding of relational databases and data structures
  • Exposure to data quality checks and validation techniques
  • Comfort using SharePoint or other collaboration tools to manage files and documentation
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, including data organization, analysis, and reporting
  • An analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and identify key insights
  • High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality
  • Clear and professional written communication skills


Education and Experience

  • This program seeks undergraduate and graduate students with excellent leadership potential. We look for diverse educational and professional experience.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited degree program with a concentration in business analytics, information systems, or public policy.


The NYSTEC Don Hanson Internship Program for summer 2026 will run from May 18 - August 7. The typical schedule will be during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Specific hours can be negotiated based on the intern's availability. Pay rates for interns are:



  • $22 per hour for undergraduate students
  • $24 per hour for graduate students
