Our Moog Military Aircraft Group is looking for a Principal Avionics Systems and Flight Test Engineer to provide master level technical contribution in the design and development of total cockpit solutions including advanced avionics, radios, and flight control systems. You'll research, develop, design, and test components, products, and systems. Additionally, you'll develop and implement new solutions, standards, and operational plans for large technical projects. This role has an onsite work schedule at our business unit, Moog Avionics, located in Mineral Wells, TX. Moog Avionics delivers customer-focused technologies and customized solutions for Special Mission, Military & Defense, Military Trainer, Business, and General Aviation industries.

Day- to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Design, development, implementation, integration and flight testing of complete air vehicle avionics systems.
  • Lead informal teams to complete customer projects and may manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Lead large initiatives and complex projects of strategic importance focused on software for avionics and flight control systems and Avionics Systems and Flight Test Engineering.
  • Review and evaluate product requirements from customers and formulate a conceptual design and architecture to meet customer requirements.
  • Analyze project proposals to determine feasibility, manufacturability, cost, and production time, and discuss proposals with engineers, customers and other personnel.
  • Develop solutions to technical challenges of a moderate scope and complexity in the design and development of complex avionics systems, radios, and autopilots and their flight control laws for fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Problems and issues faced are complex, numerous, and typically undefined. Demonstrates technological innovation in supporting business objectives and mission.
  • Support customer development and design. Help the customers understand our systems and how they work together for a certified solution.
  • Perform system/software integration activities to verify proper functionality of the products.
  • Develop new testing applications or modify existing tools to support integration activities and formal tests.
  • Support the software/system development activities for the company's new and legacy product lines.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and flight testing of air vehicle configurations based on customer requirements, FAA requirements, human factor considerations, and standard aviation certification practices. Company expert on systems level integrations of Moog product lines.
  • Lead avionics systems flight testing.
  • System and subsystem analysis and requirements specification.
  • System and subsystem modelling and performance analysis.
  • Certification project execution: TSO and STC projects.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and training to lower-level engineers and lead project engineering teams to complete air vehicle engineering projects.
  • Act as advisor to management on advanced engineering applications.

Here's what you'll bring with you...

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, or Computer Engineering (Master's degree preferred) or other related engineering degrees and related technical engineering professional experience.
  • Typically, a minimum of fifteen years related avionics experience and related technical professional experience.
  • Knowledge of the air vehicle certification processes for the FAA and other certification authorities, including understanding of system safety analysis.
  • Authoritative knowledge of engineering discipline and extensive knowledge of multiple/related job areas and industry practices and standards.
  • Expert in the area of product requirements and expert knowledge of relevant requirements management tools.
  • Knowledge of Design and Development processes, internet software, spreadsheet software and word processing software.
  • Able to do engineering work in flight test on aircraft.
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally, at times more than 30%.
  • Must be a U.S citizen.

*FAA pilot certification and extensive experience in flight testing and system safety analysis preferred

Salary Range Transparency:

Mineral Wells, TX $140,000.00-$160,000.00 Annually

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
