Job Description

The Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment at the University of Missouri is seeking a full-time Pediatric Genetic Counselor to join our growing medical team. Our genetic counselor provides support for patients across a wide range of autism and neurodevelopmental genetics services.

The Thompson Center is a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary center with more than 15 clinical subspecialties, fully integrated with the academic, training, and research missions of MU. The Center is experiencing significant growth and is actively planning for a new, state-of-the-art facility along with expanded clinical programming.

This is a full-time, patient-facing role within our outpatient clinic.

Primary Responsibilities
Clinical Review & Interpretation
* Procure and review medical records in preparation for genetic evaluations.
* Collect and interpret family health and social histories.
* Analyze and interpret clinical and laboratory results, including the review of complex medical and genetic literature and database resources.
Patient Assessment & Counseling
* Assist in assessment, diagnosis, and counseling regarding etiology, inheritance patterns, carrier/recurrence risks, and natural history of genetic conditions.
* Provide psychosocial assessment and counseling to support patients and families throughout the genetic evaluation process.
Care Coordination & Clinical Liaison Work
* Serve as a genetics liaison within multidisciplinary autism and neurodevelopmental clinics.
* Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to determine appropriate genetic testing and medical management plans.
* Formulate testing strategies, select appropriate laboratories, and support informed decision-making and consent.
Documentation & Education
* Document patient encounters, counseling sessions, and recommendations in the medical record.
* Develop patient education materials and contribute to workflows, standards of practice, and genetics resources for families and providers.

Shift

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited Genetic Associate Program or master's degree in medical genetics, genetics counseling or training program.
Board certification or board eligibility by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) or the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in pediatric genetics, neurodevelopmental genetics, or related clinical areas.

Familiarity with autism, developmental disabilities, or rare disease populations.

Interest in contributing to academic, training, or research activities within a university-based center.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $68,265.6 - $111,425.60 annually
Grade: PAT - 010
