This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite in La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Center for Healthy Eating and Activity Research in the Department of Pediatrics conducts various behavioral-therapy studies aiming to decrease binge eating, overeating and obesity among children, adolescents, and adults. The Center also conducts community programs targeting binge eating, overeating, obesity and other eating disorders and provides clinical services to children, adolescents, and adults referred from UCSD, Rady Children's Hospital, San Diego, and other organizations.

Under the supervision of the Director and Clinical Director, the incumbent will work to support the clinical staff in the admissions department. Incumbent will check referral sources, screen incoming referrals to assess appropriateness for UCSD CHEAR services, update and manage the clinic referral pipeline, complete insurance benefit checks, schedule and check in patients in EPIC, collaborate with doctors' offices to gather medical documentation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated customer service skills with the ability to answer in-person and telephone inquiries and impart information in a courteous, friendly and professional manner. Strong service orientation.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of insurance claims processing and interpreting explanation of benefits.

  • Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written, including knowledge of proper business formats, grammar, spelling and punctuation.

  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for a task or assignment and see it through to completion with little or no supervision. Ability to work efficiently, keeping track of many diverse tasks and varying assignments.

  • Skill to work as part of a team, carrying out any assignments. Ability to work with a variety of individuals in a pleasant and courteous manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical and insurance terminology.

  • Proficient keyboard skills, including typing, word processing and 10-key number pad. Skill in the use of other standard office machines. Thorough knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs. Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, internet browser and scanning.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret contracts, policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to use sound judgment.

  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor during interactions with a wide variety of personalities in demanding situations. At all times, demonstrate the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others; uphold the UCSD Principles of Community and promote a positive and collaborative team environment.

  • Must complete all required training as scheduled.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal HIPAA and FERPA regulations and state health insurance laws.

  • Experience in EPIC.

  • Experience with mental health billing.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be able to work various hours based on business needs, such as evenings.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,160 - $75,335 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.46 - $36.08

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
