About Elevate: Elevate is NC State University's Inclusive Postsecondary Education ( IPSE) program designed for North Carolina residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities ( IDD). It is a four-year, non-degree, highly inclusive program. While providing an overall structure for program expectations, participants are supported by Elevate staff and the campus community to develop and fulfill an individualized plan focused on five pillars of success: academics, employment, personal development, independent living, and social engagement. Elevate will admit its third cohort of students in Fall 2026.
Position Overview: The Graduate Assistant (GA) will provide essential administrative and programmatic support for the Elevate team as the program evolves and becomes more established in the fabric of NC State. This position combines day-to-day operations, event coordination, instructional support, and student engagement. The GA will play a vital role in both shaping the student experience and supporting the infrastructure of the Elevate program.

Key Responsibilities:

In partnership with Elevate Program Staff

  • Assist program staff with email communications, meeting and event scheduling; maintain accurate contact information, and organize program documentation, attending to procedures and policies regarding confidentiality.
  • Help plan and execute Elevate-related events, student or family workshops, and meetings, including communications, materials development, and planning in coordination with Elevate staff
  • Support the implementation of the program through collaboration with two to three assigned Coordinators (i.e., Academic Access, Campus and Community Engagement, Employment, Occupational Supports, Personal Development) or other Program staff (e.g., Assessor, Assistant, Director, Manager, Teaching Faculty, Trainer) to ensure program effectiveness.
  • Support data collection and management related to student progress in the program (e.g., navigation of campus, effective academic supports, goal attainment, activity completion). These activities may include:

    • Survey design and distribution
    • Focus group implementation
    • Qualitative and quantitative data cleaning and analysis



  • Research NC State university and Raleigh/ Wake County resources (human, institutional, business) to expand the employment and social opportunities for students with IDD enrolled in the Elevate program including:

    • Identifying and gathering information for program staff regarding potential on- off-campus employers aligned to students' career goals
    • Organizing contact information and conducting outreach to student organizations and campus-wide events to accommodate Elevate student participation
    • Identify opportunities to align Elevate activities within other University departments and Raleigh community organizations


  • Plan and support delivery of events to facilitate the social, independent living, and interpersonal skill development of students in the Elevate program in collaboration with the Peer Mentors and Elevate staff.

    • Facilitate social skills workshops tailored to students with IDD.
    • Design and implement a calendar of social activities that foster connection, independence, and community.


  • Support peer mentor recruitment, onboarding, and scheduling process
  • Monitor peer-to-student engagement and ensure a meaningful, inclusive experience by:

    • Weekly check-ins in coordination with head peer mentors/coaches
    • Weekly reviews of documentation of peer mentor/coaches activities


  • Support and co-lead Peer Mentor training on inclusion, communication, self-determination, natural supports, and peer mentorship best practices.
  • Increase knowledge of effective practices for instruction and skill development of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through review of literature.
  • Develop presentation materials about the Elevate program for information sessions with prospective students and families, as well as for professional conferences, with opportunities to propose and present at a professional conference.



Preferred:


  • Experience with data collection, managing databases, digital communication tools, and other administrative tasks
  • Experience with event planning

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities

  • Background in education, counseling, social work, or related fields

  • Familiarity with inclusive education

  • Experience with providing instructional support, managing databases, and effectively using digital communication tools
