Essential Functions: The Maternal Child Health Assistant Director PC provides leadership, oversight, and education within the maternal and child health department. This role supports the Director in managing clinical operations, ensuring high quality, family centered care, and developing staff through education, mentorship, and professional development. The Assistant Director serves as a clinical expert, resource, and role model for nurses and allied health staff while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies. Provides direct patient care as a staff nurse when needed, maintaining a high standard of clinical practice. Effectively manages the day to day operations of the unit. Facilitate patient throughput. Reviews Policies and educates staff with updates and changes. Annual policy review and revision for policies required based on previous review date. Develop and utilize a standard process for educating staff on policy changes and updates. Collaborate with the Director to manage staffing levels, resource allocation, and scheduling to ensure safe patient care and appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios. Work with nursing staff with the development and implementation of participative scheduling specifically staff coordinating the schedule process for each department. Daily crosscheck of unit schedule with Staffing Office. Identify educational needs through audits, patient outcomes, and staff feedback; design programs to address gaps. Develop a one year monthly education calendar. Calendar to include quarterly NRP renewal classes, EFM classes, S,T,A,B,L,E classes, etc. Create and implement ongoing education, including skills competencies, certification preparation EG, NRP, EFM, and annual staff development. Monitor and maintain up to date documentation of all required education and certifications e,g, NRP, EFM, BLS, ACLS, etc. Monitor patient outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance maternal and neonatal safety and satisfaction in conjunction with Perinatal Safety Officer. Develop an annual quality improvement plan of the Maternal Child Inpatient Services in conjunction with the Perinatal Safety Officer. Work with unit staff representatives to the nursing council. Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission, state, and federal regulations, as well as organizational policies and emerging trends in maternal child health. Work closely with obstetricians, midwives, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive care. Facilitate department daily huddles. Adheres to budgetary guidelines and targets proactively manages budget variances and causes. Assist in the development and enforcement of evidence based clinical protocols and emergency procedures for obstetric and neonatal care. Act as a liaison between patients, families, staff, and hospital administration to resolve concerns and promote effective communication. Will collaborate with Director to complete 100 percent of daily patient customer service rounds. Provide operational leadership in the Director s absence and represent the department in hospital committees or initiatives. Collaborates with the Director of CPDIR to Coordinate and deliver orientation for new staff in maternal child health. Weekly progress meetings with Director and orientee, Plan for improvement in areas of concern. Support preceptor during the orientation process. Collaborate with nursing leadership and educators across the organization to align professional development initiatives. Promote a culture of lifelong learning, clinical excellence, and professional certification among staff. Effectively allocates and schedules resources.
