Assists the head coach in planning, organizing, and evaluating all phases of a competitive intercollegiate football program. Understands the role of NCAA and Division III athletics in the educational process and recruits high-quality student-athletes who reflect and represent the values of Elmhurst University.

Position Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $52,000 - $57,000. This is the expected salary range for this position. The actual salary offered will depend on a candidate's experience and education, and departmental budget.

Responsibilities
  • Aides the head coach in the organization and operation of an effective and competitive football program. Serves as the Defensive Coordinator
  • Assists the head coach in the coordination of recruitment of student-athletes for the football program.
  • Attends all NCAA permissible practices and athletic activities for the football program.
  • Attends and participates in all team planning sessions with coaching staff.
  • Aides in the planning, organizing, and executing of all in-season practice sessions for football.
  • Conducts on-field defensive coordinator coaching during intercollegiate contests as set by the head coach.
  • In charge of academic monitoring of student athletes, and reports to head coach on academic progress.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Elmhurst University, NCAA, CCIW and rules and regulations.
  • Adheres to NCAA Compliance Regulations.
  • Endorses and supports other sports within the Athletic Department and fulfill other secondary duties as outlined by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics.
  • Endorses and supports other areas within Student Affairs and on campus including attendance at all meetings and service on committees when appointed.
  • Performs all summer duties (recruitment, summer camps, and clinics) and special projects as assigned by the head coach.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Previous defensive college coaching experience.
  • Familiarity with Division III athletics.
  • Recruiting experience at the collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor facilities, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions, including extended periods of extreme heat and cold. Work requires frequent districtwide, statewide, and out-of-state travel for recruiting or attending athletic competitions. Required abilities include walking, navigating uneven or slippery surfaces, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods; may require lifting and transporting equipment in excess of 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally; and using fine motor skills to operate and maneuver a range of athletic or training equipment.
