Tax Manager - US & Canada
Location: Hybrid New York, NY
Salary: $110,000-150,000 plus bonus

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to oversee all aspects of indirect tax compliance, planning, and advisory activities across the United States and Canada. This role is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate filings, managing audits and inquiries, and partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to reduce risk and identify tax savings opportunities. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in indirect tax regulations, including sales and use tax, GST/HST, PST, QST, and similar regimes.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage indirect tax compliance processes for US and Canadian operations, including preparation, review, and filing of required returns and reports.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes; evaluate business impact and communicate updates to key stakeholders.
  • Oversee tax audits, inquiries, and correspondence with US and Canadian tax authorities, ensuring accurate and timely responses.
  • Provide technical guidance on indirect tax implications related to transactions, contracts, and new business initiatives in collaboration with legal, finance, and operations teams.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and controls within the tax function.
  • Assess and manage indirect tax risks; recommend strategies to mitigate exposure and optimize tax positions.
  • Support indirect tax requirements related to system implementations, upgrades, and automation initiatives.
  • Manage relationships with external advisors and consultants, including review of deliverables.
  • Develop and deliver training to internal stakeholders on indirect tax matters.
  • Prepare and present regular updates on tax positions, risks, and planning opportunities to senior leadership.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field; CPA or equivalent professional designation preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in indirect tax, with a focus on US and Canadian jurisdictions (sales and use tax, GST/HST, PST, QST, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of US and Canadian indirect tax laws, compliance requirements, and audit processes.
  • Experience managing complex multi-state/province and cross-border tax matters.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Experience with tax compliance systems and ERP platforms; familiarity with tax automation tools is an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco by Highspring believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
