Job Summary

The Project Controls Director is responsible for advancing and standardizing project controls and engineering methodologies across a large construction organization. This role works closely with senior leadership to align operational strategy with standardized processes, policies, and technology solutions. The position focuses on driving consistency, improving performance, and ensuring organization-wide adoption of best practices in project controls, engineering, and project delivery.

Job Responsibilities




  • Lead senior-level discussions to promote adoption of standardized project controls and engineering practices.



  • Influence leaders to implement consistent processes and technology solutions across multiple business units.



  • Develop team structures and reporting frameworks to support continuous improvement initiatives.



  • Assess current project controls and engineering workflows and recommend best practices for standardization.



  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to guide development of updated operating standards.



  • Present progress updates and strategic recommendations to executive and operational leadership teams.



  • Partner with engineering and operations teams to implement standardized tools and processes, including contract management, schedule oversight, and budget controls.



  • Ensure consistent application of established standards to maintain compliance across projects.



  • Analyze project data to identify risks, improve forecasting, and maintain cost and schedule performance.



  • Facilitate discussions to capture lessons learned and address project controls and engineering challenges.



  • Collaborate with training and development teams to design curriculum aligned with standardized processes and technologies.



  • Track training participation, evaluate adoption rates, and assess impact on project outcomes.



  • Work with technology teams and external vendors to optimize project-related systems and software solutions.



  • Support rollout of project technology standards and knowledge management practices, including documentation and process manuals.



  • Perform additional duties as assigned.




Job Requirements




  • Proven ability to influence senior leadership and drive enterprise-wide process improvements.



  • Advanced knowledge of construction cost management, scheduling, estimating, procurement, and engineering principles.



  • Strong understanding of project controls frameworks and construction financial procedures.



  • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, installation practices, and quality standards.



  • Experience leading organizational change initiatives using continuous improvement methodologies.



  • Ability to manage sensitive discussions and contribute to strategic decision-making.



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.



  • Advanced project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.



  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across teams.



  • Proficiency with construction and project management software platforms.




Education




  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field required; or equivalent formal training with relevant experience.




Work Experience




  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in construction or a combination of education, training, and relevant experience.



  • Broad experience across project and operational roles, such as cost analysis, preconstruction, procurement, engineering, field supervision, and scheduling.
