About the Job

This is a Clinical Track faculty position in the Division of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science, Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, at the University of Minnesota Medical School. 80% FTE.

  • 25% Lead the Geriatric Residency program for physical therapists. This is an accredited program for DPT graduates with 2-4 residents per year placed with clinical partners. The Director is responsible for all aspects of curricular development and oversight, maintenance of accreditation, recruitment and admission of applicants, and over-seeing teaching and mentoring of residents.
  • 25% Teaching/Mentoring/Precepting: Successful candidates will have experience and passion for teaching and contemporary clinical practice knowledge to meet current DPT program teaching needs including course direction in geriatrics, instruction in aging across the lifespan, mentoring DPT clinical education, precepting in integrated clinical education and providing direct instruction in the geriatric residency.
  • 22% service: All faculty contribute to committee and professional service, faculty governance of the DPT program, as well as the Department, Medical School, and University. Experienced faculty are expected to provide mentorship to junior faculty and provide leadership within the broader University. Service is also expected to the Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program in the Department of Family Medicine.
  • 3% scholarship: The faculty member will contribute to the scholarly mission of the Division, through an active commitment to excellence in a defined area of clinical scholarship. Faculty are expected to have a defined scholarly commitment in geriatrics.
  • 25% clinical practice in geriatrics with a clinical partner, through a common paymaster contract with University of Minnesota Physicians practice (8 hours/week).
    Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The position requires a physical therapy degree with eligibility for Minnesota licensure. An earned DPT is required and clinical board certification in Geriatrics, as well as a minimum 5 years of practice as a Geriatric Clinical Specialist. Preference will be given to applicants with prior academic experience; prior experience as a Geriatric Residency Director, prior experience in mentorship of students in clinical education, prior experience with academic admissions and student affairs, strong inter-personal skills, a team-based philosophy, and commitment and passion for the profession of physical therapy and its ongoing advancement to benefit care provision and patient outcomes for the varied populations we serve. Candidates should have a demonstrated capacity for academic collaboration.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $96,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 80% Appointment
