Designs, develops, and maintains high-quality software to meet business and customer needs. Develops features and capabilities for end users, either external customers or internal employees. Configures and customizes vendor-provided packaged software to meet user needs.
What will you do?
- CODING AND IMPLEMENTATION (Including Guidewire suite of applications):
* Contributes to the development of software solutions, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards. * Writes high-quality code that satisfies customer needs and strives for simplicity, clarity, and testability. * Investigates and proposes solutions to development and design problems. * Adheres to architecture, design, implementation, and security standards and best practices. * Conducts analysis to determine integration needs, and designs and plans integrations. * Adheres to established development practices and processes. * Collaborates with senior developers to understand product requirements and design specifications. * Improves performance of existing software by diagnosing and resolving critical issues. - COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION:
* Promotes a collaborative team environment and works closely with colleagues to achieve business objectives. * Collaborates with stakeholders (e.g. business stakeholders, product owners and end users) to understand functional and non-functional requirements. * Communicates effectively with team members to provide progress updates and discusses coding-related challenges. * Actively participate in Agile/Scrum methodologies, attending sprint planning and retrospective meetings. * Seeks guidance from senior team members and contributes ideas during team discussions. * Participates in scope of work estimation and forecasting. - DOCUMENTATION AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING:
* Works closely with mentors to enhance understanding of the codebase and development processes. * Creates and updates documentation for code, APIs, and software features. * Develops reusable software building blocks to enable faster delivery. * Prepares technical documentation, including software design evaluation plans, test results, and technical manuals. * Shares knowledge with team members, actively participating in knowledge-sharing sessions. - TESTING AND QUALITY ASSURANCE (Including Guidewire suite of applications):
* Participates in code reviews or uses collaborative programming techniques to promote high quality business outcomes. * Implements unit and integration tests and assists software quality assurance team members in conducting functional and performance testing where appropriate. * Learns and applies best practices for unit testing and debugging. * Collaborates with the quality assurance team to ensure the reliability and functionality of software solutions. - CONTINUOUS LEARNING AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT:
* Stays abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to enhance skills. * Engages in training opportunities to expand technical knowledge and expertise. * Demonstrates a proactive attitude towards continuous learning and professional growth."
Education
Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work experience required. Computer science, mathematics or related field or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience
Three or more years related work experience.
Licenses and Certifications
- Guidewire ACE or Associate certification required.
PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, or ClaimCenter preferred.
Required Knowledge
- 1-2 years experience in Guidewire configuration and extension points, preferred in PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, or ClaimCenter.
- 1-2 years experience with GOSU, Guidewire configuration, business rules, and data model concepts.
- 1-2 years experience developing within Guidewire applications across multiple release cycles.
- Understanding of cloud concepts and how Guidewire applications operate in cloud environments.
- Develop integrations between Guidewire and internal/external systems using SOAP/REST APIs, messaging, and middleware tools.
Preferred Knowledge
- Understanding of software development lifecycles.
- Experience with agile development methodologies.
- Experience in building APIs for both internal and external products.
- Working knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD principles and practices.
- Background in the Insurance Industry preferred but not required.
- Principles of finance, business, statistics, and insurance
- Knowledge of property casualty rating and policy coverages and endorsements
- Strong knowledge of agile practices and experience with agile planning tools (e.g. Azure DevOps).
