Peraton is seeking a Software Developer SME to design and deliver advanced software solutions supporting telecommunications operations and mission-critical systems within the National Airspace System. This is a high-impact technical leadership role for an experienced software engineer who thrives in complex, regulated environments. You will guide architecture strategy, influence integration decisions, elevate code quality standards, and mentor development teams delivering solutions that support safe and efficient air travel across the country. Your work will directly impact modernization initiatives that protect and power national aviation infrastructure.

Work Location:

    This position will work on site in the DC Metro area. Once operations are fully established, we will consider telework options however, this is not guaranteed.

In this position, you will:

  • Lead software design, develop features, integrate systems, mentor developers.
  • Design and develop advanced software solutions supporting telecommunications operations and mission systems.
  • Lead architectural design decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and resilient.
  • Lead software design, develop features, integrate systems, mentor developers.
  • Drive system integration efforts across telecommunications, infrastructure, and mission applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issues, including performance and integration challenges.
  • Mentor and guide software developers, promoting technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
  • Support modernization initiatives, legacy system transitions, and platform enhancements.
  • Collaborate with architects, systems engineers, cybersecurity teams, and program leadership to align technical direction with mission objectives.
  • Provide input into technical trade studies, design reviews, and architecture governance boards.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, integration artifacts, and audit-ready technical deliverables.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree and 12 years' experience or Masters degree and 10 years' experience or Associate's degree and 14 years' experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 16 years' experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in software engineering with strong architecture leadership responsibilities.
  • Proven experience designing enterprise or mission-critical software systems.
  • Strong understanding of secure software development practices in regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor developers and influence technical direction across teams.
  • Experience with modern development frameworks and programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C#, or similar).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with National Airspace System (NAS) architecture and modernization initiatives (e.g., NextGen).
  • Certifications: Cloud or secure coding certs preferred.
  • Strong ability to interpret complex data and deliver actionable insights.
  • Proven experience designing efficient workflows.
  • Expertise in managing and optimizing processes for compliance and performance.
  • Experience supporting aviation, telecommunications, or critical infrastructure systems.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
