Over 30 faculty and staff support the artistic and creative work of the students and school. East Carolina University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre. |
| Job Duties |
The School of Theatre and Dance is searching to fill a full-time 9-month tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Dance to teach all levels of Ballet Techniques (including pointe and/or partnering) and courses in Dance History or Dance Pedagogy, as well as other courses within the faculty member's areas of expertise. The faculty member may also choreograph within the School of Theatre and Dance's production season. ECU's
BFA in Dance is unique in the nation's landscape because we offer a
BFA that is a "Triple Track" course of study preparing dancers equally in the disciplines of Ballet, Modern/Contemporary Technique, and Jazz.
This specific focus allows us to prepare dancers for a broader range of careers in the employment landscape and has contributed to our success in recruiting top dance students. Due to our model of exceptional instruction, our Dance program, has traditionally maintained high job placement immediately following graduation from
ECU. The position is expected to teach a 4/4 course load and provide professional service to the institution and community.
This position is contingent upon available funding. |
| Minimum Education/Experience |
Minimum Qualification (candidates must have):
- Terminal degree (MFA or equivalent) or equivalent experience in Dance.
- Experience training and educating pre-professional or professional level dancers
- Developing creative activity and/or research.
- Expertise in any area of dance practice or scholarship including but not limited to hip hop, commercial dance, tap, dance history, pedagogy, somatics, partnering, pointe, improvisation, composition, dance kinesiology, and world dance forms such as African, Latin, Asian, and Southeast-Asian diasporas.
