DEPARTMENT: CNC MACHINING

REPORTS TO:CNC MACHINING SUPERVISOR

CLASSIFICATION:NON-EXEMPT

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Under minimal supervision, the CNC Operator operates, monitors, and supports production across multiple CNC machines. This role partners closely with Machinists during the assigned shift, completes clear pass-downs to the night shift on machine status, and reviews pass-downs from the prior shift to ensure continuity, quality, and schedule adherence. The CNC Operator performs basic setups, runs programs per setup sheets, verifies parts to drawings, and supports inspection and continuous improvement efforts.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate CNC mill-turns, lathes, and vertical 3-axis and 5-axis mills; mayoperateother conventional shop machinery as needed.
  • Monitor multiple machines simultaneously tomaintainsafe, consistent, and efficient production.
  • Load parts, tools, and fixtures; run and/or set up machines using approved programs, setup sheets, and work instructions.
  • Review produced parts against engineering drawings/specifications for dimensional accuracy and visual acceptance.
  • Use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.) to verify conformance and document results asrequired.
  • Provide first articlestoQuality Control (QC) for acceptance and perform in-process inspection sampling perlotsize/plan tomaintainaccuracy.
  • Escalate issues and seek guidance from Machinists as needed (e.g., offsets, tool wear/breakage, program questions, fixturing concerns).
  • Provide clear shift pass-downs to the night shift (machine status, issues, parts in work, tooling concerns, quality notes) and review prior shift pass-downs.
  • Communicate and provide feedback to support process improvements (cycle time, scrap reduction, repeatability, setup efficiency).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; follow shop safety rules and PPE requirements.
  • Support LEAN/continuous improvement initiatives (5S, waste reduction, standard work, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned orrequiredto support production operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma and 2-5years of shop floor / CNC machining environment experience.
  • Able to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Ability to obtain andmaintainthe required security clearance.
  • Experienceoperatingand supporting setup on CNC mill-turns, lathes, and 3-axis/5-axis mills.
  • Use of basic inspection tools (i.e.calipers / gauge blocks / threadgauges /micrometers).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting firstarticleprocesses and in-process inspection plans in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated involvement in LEAN/5S initiatives or continuous improvement projects.
  • Experience working in high-mix/low-volume or tight-tolerance manufacturing environments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, coolants, and metal chips; PPErequired.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods; lift/move materials consistent with shop operations.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks, use hand tools, andoperateequipment safely.
