Position Highlights

Dr. Craig Weinkauf, Department of Surgery, is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant to assist with his research project, Carotid Artery Atherosclerosis Contributions to Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease Risk. The project includes working with patients and advanced MRI techniques as well as other brain and vascular imaging techniques.

The applicant should have great people skills, be highly self-motivated, hard-working, and be able to communicate well in English. Communication skills in Spanish is a preferred qualification. Preference will be given to applicants with an undergraduate degree in English, Psychology or Scientific fields, prior experience working with adults over 5O years old, and those looking to work 2+ years on this research project.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with lab members on research to understand how vascular disease affects cognition and risk for dementia.
  • Assist Pl in developing clinical trial protocols; provide clinical enrollment of patients in Dr. Weinkauf's research trial; responsible for completing intake for patients and meeting IRB requirements including calling patients and meeting with them to discuss requirements for study and serve as patient resource for concerns and provide information; assist with patient follow-up calls and appointments.
  • Compile data/collection, and assist in preliminary analysis; maintain research database, assist senior lab members with writing summary reports and report findings to investigator; assist senior lab members in the development of written operating procedures for clinical trial; assist senior lab members with submitting required documentation to IRB.
  • Maintain and order supplies; assist with training of new team members, including students and junior lab members.
  • May assist on related research studies within the assigned lab, based on project needs and Pl direction.
    Will be trained to do simple brain and carotid imaging, neurocognitive testing.
