Position Highlights

The Cognitive Aging and Neural Dynamics laboratory (CANDL) in the Department of Neuroscience seeks a self-motivated and collaborative individual to join the laboratory.
The Research Professional II develops, plans, and conducts research in the Cognitive Aging and Neural Dynamics laboratory, focusing on the neurobiology of aging and cognition. The RPII works under minimal supervision, using automated touchscreen operant cognitive testing, fiber photometry, neurophysiology, basic immunohistochemistry, and biochemical assays. The role also supervises undergraduates, and onboards/trains new research personnel.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Working under minimal supervision, collects behavioral, neurophysiological and metabolic data. Processes and analyzes tissue for biochemical and histological data collection. Recommend solutions to PI for methodology based on analysis.
  • Independently manages knock-in rat colonies through setting up and implementing breeding, coordinating genotyping with external vendor, and conducting metabolic and behavioral phenotyping to support research in the CANDL. Conducts stereotactic surgeries using advanced 3D imaging to target a small area guiding instruments with precision in accordance with IACUC protocols.
  • Maintains IACUC protocols. Maintains laboratory compliance, including hazardous and biological waste management.
  • Participates in the research and writing for publications and presentations.
  • Supervises undergraduate assistants. On-boards and trains incoming research personnel. Assists laboratory trainees and staff with experiments. Organizes weekly laboratory meetings.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
