Campus Safety & Security Officers must be a model of integrity, objectivity, and professionalism. Safety officers and dispatchers are the forward-facing representatives of the department, engaged in direct interaction with the campus community. The primary responsibility of this position is to support the department's goals and objectives to provide a safe campus environment, protect university assets, facilities, and property. Safety/Dispatch officers have a dynamic role, assisting armed officers in the field and working as a dispatcher in the Communications Center. Safety officers respond to fire, medical, and security related calls. Working as a dispatcher includes receiving emergency calls and dispatching necessary services in a timely and effective manner. Safety Officers/Dispatchers are assigned shifts but must be flexible to meet the safety and security needs of the department and campus community. This may require working extended hours, working on normal days off, modifying shift days and hours ( 8hr, 10hr, and 12hr shifts) for a prolonged period of time. The Campus Safety & Security Department is licensed as a Security Guard Agency with the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Safety Officers/Dispatchers must be able to obtain and retain an unarmed security guard card. Safety Officers/Dispatchers must also meet the department physical fitness standard. All department staff are expected to participate in campus community events, in support of the department's community policing philosophy Compensation The hourly pay range for this position is $19 to $21, with a starting hourly pay expectation around $19. In addition, this position is eligible for an armed differential of $2.50 an hour and a shift differential of $0.96 an hour. Required licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances:
AZ DPS unarmed and armed guard cards. CPR/AED Within six months of becoming a supervisor: Dispatch functions training resulting in a comprehensive understanding of dispatch capability and the ability to work as a dispatcher if needed. Within one year of becoming a supervisor:
CRASE Instructor Individual must have excellent verbal communication abilities. The position requires the ability to write legibly, speak clearly, and manage multiple and sometimes stressful tasks (involving radio, phone, and personal communications) at the same time. At least three years' experience in law enforcement, corrections, military, or similar role in security. Must pass annual department physical fitness assessment and firearms qualification standards. | |
