What you'll do

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager of our PCB CAD team. You will lead a team of PCB designers and CAD librarians in the development of leading edge printed circuit boards and libraries for satellite, flight, and ground-based communications systems.

You will be working with PCB CAD tool vendors as you provide strategic solutions, technical training and support for our Engineering and Design teams. You will lead the team in maintaining and improving standards, protocols, and process improvements.

This position also requires the Manager to support PCB Design in high peak periods.


The day-to-day

As a Sr Manager for the PCB CAD team, you need a deep understanding and experience with PCB design processes and tools as you will oversee the design work of your team. You will need to work regularly with the CAD tool vendors to learn about updates to the tool capabilities, get support for technical issues, work through tool contract discussions, identifying Viasat's tool needs based on project forecasts.

You will work with CAD IT to keep tools and licenses running and up to date. You will need to understand what's new in new releases and train your team and engineers in new capabilities. You will use JIRA to manage day to day workflow and generate metrics.


What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Required availability for design work in high peak periods.

  • 10+ years in engineering/design Management with 5+ years leading teams
  • 5+ years of PCB Design experience
  • Expert in PCB design processes and requirements
  • Highly proficient in the use of PCB design tools (e.g. Siemens and Zuken)
  • Experience training engineers and designers on tool usage and the design process
  • Experience working with tool vendors
  • Experience holding employees accountable for deliverables
  • Have a passion for helping your team succeed
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to influence corporate changes for continual improvement opportunities
  • Strong relationship-building ability
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to estimate PCB layout cycle times based on complexity and board type
  • Knowledge of the PWB and PWA manufacturing process
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance

What will help you on the job

  • Experience outsourcing design work with third party design companies ensuring the designers follow Viasat standards

  • Experience using design data management software

  • Experience doing PCB design of high speed, digital, or RF boards


Salary range

$187,500.00 - $296,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $233,000.00- $350,000.00/ annually
