Department Overview

Enterprise Support Services function is to provide complete operations and maintenance service support so that our physical facilities (buildings, equipment, machinery, systems and grounds) may operate at an optimum. Optimization of our facilities will promote and ensure safe, clean, and compatible working conditions for employees. Enterprise Support Services activities include building maintenance and repair, office space planning and associated move coordination, leasing administration (building/property), construction project management and Physical Security. This area also assists with corporate office moves, reconfiguration projects for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and affiliate companies.

Primary Responsibilities

The incumbent's primary responsibility is to develop, implement, and manage policies and procedures that ensure BCBSAL buildings and leased offices (where applicable are safe and functional. Duties include negotiating contracts with service providers, inspecting facilities to meet safety regulations and coordinating renovations and updates. This position provides oversight to all facilities related functions in the area of preventive, predictive/emergency maintenance, custodial services, grounds maintenance and life safety. Further, the incumbent must assist in the administration and development of corporate contracts for waste management, grounds maintenance, pest control, equipment maintenance and other services. The incumbent is responsible for the implementation and coordination of facility changes as derived from Space Planning. The incumbent reviews and settles vendor billing discrepancies and assists with periodic reviews to ensure vendor performance meets established corporate standards. The incumbent must work with a diverse client base, both internal and external, to assist in the planning and implementation of corporate events as they relate to facilities. The incumbent shall be knowledgeable of mission critical facilities and is to develop, implement, and manage policies and procedures that maintain the integrity and reliability of mission critical facilities. The incumbent has the highest level of responsibility for the facility operations and technical maintenance at the site. The incumbent promotes teamwork among the staff and is highly influential in obtaining the cooperation of the staff to meet corporate expectations and objectives. The incumbent works closely with the Director of Enterprise Support Services and the Information Technology Managers to ensure that corporate needs are being met. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the specialized contracted services required in maintaining mission critical facilities. The incumbent will ensure that any work to be performed, contracted or handled in-house, will not jeopardize the critical systems operations.

Summary of Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in one of the following fields: Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Industrial Engineering
  • Proven track record of effective management. Five years of experience in Commercial/Industrial facilities management
  • Knowledge and expertise in facility systems and an intimate knowledge of reliability engineering techniques used in large commercial buildings
  • Experience in reading and analyzing architectural/ engineering documents to evaluate solutions for problems and improvements
  • Experience in preparing and analyzing contracts, bids and proposals
  • Experience in contributing to a team to resolve technical issues related to Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, and other Building Infrastructure systems
  • Experience demonstrating skills involving negotiation, persuasion, assertiveness, and dealing with difficult persons and situations
  • Understanding of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), or Building Automation System (BAS).Systems that collect data from various sensors within the infrastructure equipment and then sends this data to a central computer which then manages equipment operations
  • Strong computer skills, Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to interact with all levels of management and staff, as this position has contact with contractors, subcontractors, vendors and government officials in directing the functions of the facility
  • Valid US driver's license
  • Five years of critical facilities experience preferred
  • Experience in an environment requiring 24/7 operations required
Work Location

The work schedule for this position will be full-time onsite.
