The Director, Indirect Tax Compliance and Audit manages complex sales/use/income tax audits for all Maritz businesses across client sectors. This role will also manage changes to and new business initiatives across all Maritz businesses to ensure proper tax compliance is met and opportunities for tax efficiencies are explored and implemented.

You'll be responsible for evaluation of tax opportunities which can provide benefits to Maritz and its shareholder and evaluation of new tax laws and regulations to determine impact on Maritz businesses.

This is a hybrid role - working three days a week in Fenton, MO office.

What You'll Be Doing:

40% - Tax Administration: Manages complex sales/use tax administration, audit and research functions. Provides client/vendor support: reviews, edits and responds to client documents and contract negotiations; evaluate client claims of tax exemption, assists clients/vendors in state sales/use tax audits; issues tax exemption certificates; participates in purchase order management and contract negotiations; and more. Prepares various tax adjustments and schedules in support of consolidated federal income tax return. Provides other tax administration duties as needed: reviews and analyzes all capital asset purchases; assess potential/resulting changes in Maritz legal entity and business organization and its impact based on state sales/use tax laws, regulations, guidelines and opinions; establishes sales/use tax policy and monitor potential changes; reviews and responds to proposed outsourced operations contract language.

35% - Client Tax Services: Evaluates and sets costing for client tax reporting/withholding services. Designs, manages and implements client reporting programs including (a) determining proper tax reporting guidelines and rules, (b) creation and monitoring of client data controls and program processes and (c) acting as liaison with client finance and account personnel to ascertain client needs are being met. Works in cross-department teams on design, development, testing, implementation and continual support of various Maritz' financial systems.

25% - Employee Benefits Plans: Manages the tax compliance aspects of various Maritz benefits plans and their associated filings with government entities. Prepares and distributes Summary Annual Reporting to employees, retirees, and beneficiaries. Address day-to-day questions on potential and resulting tax changes to all Maritz employee benefit plans. Maintain relationships with external tax advisors and ensure work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.

Special Projects: Supports and assists in the design, planning and execution of corporate-wide initiatives and process improvement initiatives. Assists in as hoc financial analysis.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent work experience.

  • 8-10 years of corporate tax experience in either public accounting and/or industry.

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of hands-on sales/use tax experience. Strong ability to research, analyze, interpret and apply federal, state and local tax laws and principles.

  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to process/perform multiple tasks and manage time to meet deadlines.

  • Advanced skills with Vertex. Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word etc.).
