Responsibilities

Director, Master Data Management (MDM)
(Product, Customer, Vendor, Chart of Accounts)

Massillon, OH (Hybrid Schedule)

The Director of Master Data Management (MDM) is responsible for establishing and leading an enterprise-wide master data strategy, governance model, and operating structure across critical data domains including Product, Customer, Vendor, and Chart of Accounts (CoA). This role owns the end-to-end lifecycle of master data-from governance and standards through creation, maintenance, data quality, and downstream consumption-ensuring master data is accurate, consistent, audit-ready, and optimized to support manufacturing execution, supply chain operations, financial reporting and analytics. The leader will partner closely with Finance, Supply Chain, Sales, Procurement, IT, Analytics, and ERP program teams to enable trusted reporting, efficient processes, and scalable growth.

Your seat at the table:

MDM Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and execute the enterprise MDM strategy across Product, Customer, Vendor, and Chart of Accounts domains.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of master data managers and analysts.
  • Establish clear vision, roadmap, and operating model for master data across the organization.
  • Serve as the senior point of accountability for master data outcomes, performance, and compliance.

Data Governance & Standards

  • Design and implement master data governance frameworks, policies, and stewardship models.
  • Drive adoption of master data standards, naming conventions, hierarchies, and business rules.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to define and enforce decision rights, approval workflows, and ownership.
  • Lead master data governance councils and cross-functional working sessions.

Master Data Operations

  • Oversee master data creation, maintenance, approvals, and deactivation processes.
  • Ensure master data processes support business operations and align to ERP, procurement, finance, and commercialization workflows.
  • Improve operational efficiency through automation, workflow optimization, and process standardization.

Data Quality & Controls

  • Define master data quality metrics and performance targets (completeness, accuracy, uniqueness, timeliness).
  • Establish controls to prevent duplicates, misclassification, and data inconsistencies.
  • Ensure master data supports compliance requirements (SOX, audit controls, vendor/customer risk, etc.).

ERP / Systems Enablement

  • Partner with ERP transformation program to ensure master data readiness.
  • Ensure integration alignment between ERP and reporting platforms.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Collaborate with Finance leadership on Chart of Accounts governance, hierarchies, and reporting structures.
  • Partner with Procurement on vendor onboarding and vendor master compliance.
  • Partner with Sales and Customer Operations on customer master integrity, segmentation, and hierarchy needs.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Product teams on product master governance, attributes, and lifecycle management.

Reporting & Analytics Enablement

  • Ensure master data supports high-quality analytics, KPIs, financial reporting, and forecasting.
  • Work with Data & Analytics teams to align master data definitions to enterprise metrics and reporting layers.

Team & Scope

  • Leads an enterprise MDM function supporting multiple plants, regions, or business units.
  • Oversees domain ownership for:
    • Customer Master
    • Vendor/Supplier Master
    • Product/Material Master
    • Chart of Accounts / Finance Master Data
  • Owns master data governance and operational processes globally or across multiple business units.

Qualifications

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, Supply Chain, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 8-12+ years of experience in Master Data Management, Data Governance, ERP, or enterprise data roles.
  • 3-7+ years of people leadership experience (team management, coaching, org design).
  • Demonstrated experience leading MDM across multiple domains (Customer, Vendor, Product, CoA).
  • Strong understanding of ERP master data structures (SAP, Oracle, Workday, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).
  • Experience building governance models, workflows, and business rules.
  • Strong knowledge of data quality practices, controls, and data lifecycle management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MDM tools/platforms (Informatica, SAP MDG, Reltio, Profisee, Semarchy, Tibco, etc.).
  • Experience supporting enterprise transformation, mergers, or global standardization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with data privacy, security, and compliance requirements (SOX, GDPR, vendor risk).
  • Experience working closely with Finance on Chart of Accounts governance and financial reporting requirements.
