Job Summary
The Food Service Worker (Per Diem) supports daily food service operations throughout Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital. This role works in a variety of areas based on operational needs, including:
- Patient Services: tray line, meal delivery, host/diet kitchen support, dish and pot room
- Retail Services: serving, barista, cashiering, and stocking
- Food Production: hot/cold preparation, issue room, and storeroom support
- Catering: food assembly, delivery, and event service
The Food Service Worker maintains sanitation and food safety standards, communicates effectively with patient-care units, visitors, and staff, and delivers excellent customer service by fostering a respectful, welcoming environment for patients, guests, and colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and/or certification if required for the position
- Customer service experience working directly with customers.
- Understand and exhibit excellent customer service by demonstrating a caring and interested manner, creating an environment in which customers and co-workers feel valued and respected.
- Exhibit ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.
- Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
- Skill to use basic mathematical calculations and read a digital scale, operate a cash register, and count cash.
- Ability to check the computer online schedule, email as needed, and complete mandatory online training/testing.
- Understand basic diet, nutrition, and menu terminology
- Ability to work in an environment with very sick patients
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision while maintaining the desired quality and quantity of work
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in food service.
- Experience prepping and serving food.
- Experience in a hospital or academic environment.

Department Overview
The primary purpose of the Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital is to provide a full range of rehabilitation services designed to restore patients to their optimal functional capacity. The hospital is a 52-bed rehabilitation hospital on the Sacramento Medical Center campus. It is equipped with leading-edge amenities and adaptive units where patients can practice typical activities of daily living. The rehabilitation hospital also includes a 12-bed brain injury unit and four private rooms for bariatric patients.

Work Environment
